I was taking some pics the other day and snapped this one. Looks like a rocket, but I guess it's just the sun and clouds causing the effect.

Looks just like an aircraft contrail to me. Is it unusual to get aircraft flying in that direction?

It's the same interaction between sunlight and high altitude ice crystals that leads to sun dogs. Pretty cool that you caught it just where it coincided with the back of the aircraft.
