TvT is another "classic" in the world of sims. I know a lot of "fans" put a lot of work into it, only to have financial issues force the publishers to kick it out the door before the developers and the "fans" were done.

TvT turned into a bad time warp of the same things that killed PE.

If you only consider software development of a WW2 tank sim, TvT is PE 2.0 in every good and bad aspect.

Any serous, armoured fan/modder has suffered through the years since Panzer Commander and has the same questions come to mind in a bad dejavue.

wink since we all know I am "That-Prix-Al" I will ask some questions many are afraid to ask, but the answers prevent them from taking a second interest in TvT.

.. Who owns the copywrite to the TvT software.
.. IF all desires are fixed, will someone come along with a lawyer to stop it or take it
.. Do you have access to the sorce code so that you can FIX the problems rather then search the work arounds.
.. Do you have legal access to the code
.. What tools are needed to modify TvT
.. What expensive tools are needed that some assume using pirated versions justifies the ends
.. Can these expensive tools be purchesed legaly for cheep because they are now old

For me, the end game is if access to the sorce code is avalible.

Hi Al,

I will do my best to answer you're questions.

.. Who owns the copywrite to the TvT software.

The copy-write is owned by Lighthouse Interactive, who as you as you are aware went into receivership and now do not exist.

.. IF all desires are fixed, will someone come along with a lawyer to stop it or take it

An impossible question to answer. Though I would think it is very unlikely this is going to happen. The owners do not exist anymore.

.. Do you have access to the sorce code so that you can FIX the problems rather then search the work arounds.

No we do not have access to the source code. We have contact with the original programmers of the engine, we have been told that 90% of the game runs in scripts. These scripts are accessible via notepad.

.. Do you have legal access to the code

See above..

.. What tools are needed to modify TvT

You need Notepad, Paint.net or Gimp, Audacity. The 3d models have to be exported using Maya 5 and the export tools for Maya 5, these tools shipped with TvsT.

.. What expensive tools are needed that some assume using pirated versions justifies the ends

See above..

.. Can these expensive tools be purchesed legaly for cheep because they are now old

I have no clue, we, PzU have not added any new vehicles to the sim.

PzU's main goal is to make the multi player TvsT stable. We have made great strides doing just this. TvsT in mp is now fast and stable, we have a couple of small issues that we are dealing with.

We have new skins which are selectable via the games mp menu. The new skins for the Tigers and T34's are of a much higher quality than the originals.

We have many new sounds for engines, voices and weapons.

The maps have had lots of work, with new vegetation, colour/shadow balancing and many bug fixes.

We have a new map, South Russia which is a more open rolling terrain, very nice for tank warfare.

We now have ambient sounds playing whilst in battle, this alone makes a large difference.

The list goes on, suffice to say the game is very open and moddable.

We hope to release a new MMP very soon, more information can be found here: http://panzersim.forumotion.com/forum

that game doesn't have normal maps? damn. if they only add normal maps and bump maps, it'll look amazing.
