Steps to follow to install and configure Motec:

1. Download the Motec software from this link. Do not download the latest version from Motec's site as it doesn't work with rFactor. Use the link below instead
Motec i2 Pro-v1.01.0082

2. Install the data acquisition plugin from the rFactorcentral link below
Data Acquisition Plugin-v1.32

The data acquisition plugin needs to be installed in the rFactor directory. You should have the following folders and files if the data acquisition plugin is installed properly

\rfactor\DataAcquisitionPlugin.ini
\rFactor\Plugins\DataAcquisitionPlugin.dll

\rFactor\Plugins\rFactor Data Acquisition Plugin
\rFactor\Plugins\rFactor Data Acquisition Plugin\Icons

\rFactor\Plugins\rFactor Data Acquisition Plugin\Icons\Uninstall.ico
\rFactor\Plugins\rFactor Data Acquisition Plugin\Sounds
\rFactor\Plugins\rFactor Data Acquisition Plugin\Sounds\LoggerOff.wav
\rFactor\Plugins\rFactor Data Acquisition Plugin\Sounds\LoggerOn.wav
\rFactor\Plugins\rFactor Data Acquisition Plugin\CheckForUpdates.lnk
\rFactor\Plugins\rFactor Data Acquisition Plugin\LICENSE.txt
\rFactor\Plugins\rFactor Data Acquisition Plugin\README.txt
\rFactor\Plugins\rFactor Data Acquisition Plugin\Uninstall rFactorDAQPlugin.lnk

Folders above are shown in green, files are in blue

3. Click this link and go through the instructions to setup Motec (thanks to Steve Wood from Race2Play)
http://www.race2play.com/homepage/show_posts/7492
OR
Download the generic Motec template which has been setup by following above instructions from this link, extract and open with Motec
MotecGenericTemplate.zip

4. When you're in car and heading out of the garage in rFactor, you'll hear a voice saying "Data acquisition is off". Click CTRL M on the keyboard and you'll hear a voice saying "Data acquisition is enabled".

5. Run 5 laps and once you're done, Escape to garage and ALT-TAB rFactor, open the Motec software and click the link to the template created in Step 3. Once the template is open select File>Open Log and point to the log file of the 5 laps you just ran. The log will be where you configured it again in Step 3. You should be able to have a look at all the details for those 5 laps.

You can also download the Motec manual from the following link for additional info

Thanks for the great info! I was really curious how to make all this work! I'm terrible with some of this coding stuff. Great to have some insider advice.

Just a heads-up; I tried the link to the motec software yesterday and it wasn't there any longer.

Not sure if someone has an alternate download location.

Lugnut, I found it at this site.... VHR Setup Exchange (requires registration)....haven't installed it yet, though so I'm not sure if it's going to work on my Win 7/64 system or not.
