They Look Like Models

I only recently became aware of this photographic effect when I bought my E-PL1, as it has it included as one of the Art Filters. Perhaps of limited use, but it sure looks cool when done properly.

The old tilt shift photography trick...which can be replicated in photoshop smile

Ok, some of these work better than others.

I've noticed this effect appearing a lot recently in the media but didn't know how it was done. Everyday pictures having that miniature/macro look about them. Weird, but cool.

The technique is very effective on the pictures in your link MajorMagee.

Mailman the second picture is the best one.

I tried the simulated technique using Photoshop with some of my pictures.

Impressive. GloDark, you're doing it well. The pics in the first link also seem to have some PP applied to get that clean, slightly overbright look...

Mailman, I think for your examples you are too low on the ground, part of the illusion is looking down at stuff.

It's a fun effect. A lot of extra work in the Photoshop channels can make some truly convincing fake miniature photo. The big give-aways are when objects appear more or less blurry than other objects equidistant from the camera, as is the case with the masts on some of those ships.

I have used this for some time and it works well without needing Photoshop

http://tiltshiftmaker.com/

Just choose a photo from your collection that has a lot of depth and upload it.

yeah, if you want to do it right you need to mask objects on the same focal plane so that they don't get blurred. it doesn't take much extra work and the photo looks much more realistic for it.

It works really well for time-lapse movies too, this one is lovely:

Funny how our brains trick us into thinking we're looking at a miniature just because of the reduced depth of field.

The new Gulliver`s Travels movie with Jack Black used the same type of photos for the intro to the movie. Great movie to.
