WC, sorry about the confusion on yellow flag rules. We got that sorted in the practice races, but we should have re-briefed it in the driver's meeting today. The game is set up such that you have to race back to the start/finish and then slow for the SC, which comes out when the leader crosses the s/f line. That lavender (?) circle with a white X: who thought up that symbol for closed pits? biggrin Very confusing.

Good to have you racing with us today, and look forward to racing with you again in the SCES.

Stewart, had a good time racing with you today as well. I think in the first race we wer trading paint pretty good coming out of the chicane, and I wanted to say (Chunx on your inside) but in the excitement I think I said something less cordial, despite the intent for cordiality on that one. Apologies for that.

Ditto for anyone else that got any wrath via TeamSpeak3. That was some of the most intense racing I've experienced, outside of a NASCAR simulation (hint hint). Like NASCAR's short tracks (Martinsville and Bristol), emotions are going to run as hot as the brake disks. Proving once again that rFactor simulates more than just car physics! smile

Oh yes, and as Stewart says, Big KUDOS to the P&P team for their setups! They really made the series what it was - fun and challenging. Great work, guys!

Well great thanks to doug for somehow, despite managing the races, finding the files I needed so I wouldn't get booted. The man is an admin machine.

As for the race, well it was interesting. Having not run a single lap either round the Norisring or in the Orange Mule, the sum of my experience pre-race was a few warm-up laps and the 10 minute qualifying period. Looking at the times, I was pretty confident of a last place finish but if I could at least provide another car round the track that didn't crash into too many other people I'd be happy.

Yet somehow, through the melee of safety cars early on, I got an epic run on the green flag and found myself running in 3rd. That didn't last long, and some more costly spins had me sliding down the ranks. Also a drive-through penalty for pit lane speeding didn't help and I found myself racing against myself for the most part.

I think I was a factor in a number of the safety car incidents, mostly through sloppy driving rather than reckless braking I'm happy to say, but apologies if there were any silly ones. Enjoyed the race and hopefully get a chance to get some more under my belt. Congrats to all.

Well that was some crazy racing. 1st race I made my way up to fifth somehow, but got rammed and lost it all. 2nd race, was a lot better. I was just hanging out around the front when Birdski and Chunx spun around, which left papa_k and I to fight for the lead. I out braked Papa_k on the last corner and led a major race for the first time in a very long time. Led 15 laps when I came across Henny exiting the pits. I thought he was going to let me pass. He didn't biggrin. I spun while trying to avoid hitting him and Chunx went by me. After that I was just driving around 5th or 6th, when I caught David and Papa_K. I got pass Papa_K when he spun, but I hit David exiting the chicane when I had a huge run. Very sorry for that. Ended up third which was a lot better than I thought I would get.

Wow this was very challenging racing in this serie.

As for the set ups thanks for youre comments guys ,for one it sure was a fun learning experience as it was not easy to tweak for some of the tracks with this mod , specially at Paul Ricard and Norisring wich had hard braking at the end of there long straights.
Having locked settings (dont know why) , with this mod such as ; Individual gearing ratios ,Boost and brake mapping , Power and Coast it did not help in solving the stability under braking , so we had to go by "everything but the kitchen sink" and use other settings like the sway bars , suspension and Dampers. In all , we think that we did our best to deliver good stable set ups and i hope that it made you guys an enjoyable ride troughout this serie.Congrads to the top contenders in your respective groups and thanks to Doug for making my skin and as usual for a great hosting.

No worries on that score Chunx. I can hardly hear teamspeak when racing anyway. That fix in the forums about how to hear it over the sim didnt work for me. Anyway I think we raced hard but fair so its all good.

Final Series Points Page
http://www.simhq.com/_motorsports3/motorsports_088a.html

I checked carefully the final totals, but drivers please double-check your results and let me know of any discrepancies.

Congratulations to Chunx for winning the series by one point over Darren. The two of them slugged away the entire series.

Congratulations to Pierre1 for winning Group 2. Not as close as the blues, but still only a five point margin over henny and every bit as hard fought as Group 1.

Congratulations to everyone else who stayed with the series to the finish. Even though some drivers became irritated at the DTM mod for various reasons, it was our most highly attended series ever on SimHQ excepting the 2010 ILMS 2.5 races.

In the five events, only 6 drivers completed all races. The top two in each group -- Chunx, Darren, Pierre1, and henny. The other drivers were Dave Bradley who was ever so consistent and finished in the top third of the overall entries, and Birdski who was always fast and in contention in almost every race.

Thanks to Piotr for suggesting the format, and as I mentioned earlier in this thread, to all of you who made it work. This was an experiment, and I want to start another thread where we can discuss what worked well, and what could have worked better. Lets analyze so we can have an even better touring car series next time.

Sorry for your DQ Caana but are you sure you had a stop/go and not a drive through?
This caught me out before because if you pit on a drive through it does not count.

check here also: http://wiki.old-drivers-spirit.fr/index.php?title=RFactor:FAQ-Penalties
it is saying that you have to choose the stop/go option otherwise it will just be a pit stop, I guess this lets you repair damage and then you still have a lap to come back in and serve the stop/go.

Ok, thnx for the link.

Now i know it was a drive through, not a stop and go rolleyes but....a pit stop doesnt count as a drive through? I hope i will remember this rule for the next time wink.

Well, that was certainly exciting biggrin

I was amazed that the first race got off so smoothly, and that i managed to make it through the first few laps without incident - unfortunately it didn't last long and I seemed to get caught in pretty much every other crash after that. With only a couple of laps to go i was running last in class but spins by a couple of the blues on the final lap helped promote me up the field.

For the big race, I knew Chunx was faster and more consistent here so my only option was to get track position and hope that i could hang onto it. I banked on the fact we would be getting a few yellows and decided to do both pits early in the race. Luckily for me this worked out and as things unraveled i found myself at the front. Despite a few minor scrapes and a couple of 'moments' it seemed luck was on my side and i managed to hang onto the lead (just).

Thanks for the compliment but i had a couple of tracks that suited me well, and i had a couple of races where i lost points from being in the wrong place at the wrong time. In the end it was your ability to avoid these and your better consistency that won you the series and you shone at Norisring where it mattered most. You deserved it. beercheers

Congratulations to Chunx for the series and class win, and to Pierre for the G2 Championship.
A special mention to Birdski and Alex who were flying at Norisring and also Stuart who impressed me with some great racing on Sat/Sun. Well done guys thumbsup

Overall this was a really fun series. We got some great participation and the races were fast, brutal and exciting - just like real life. I'd like to give thanks to all the drivers who made this so enjoyable. It's truly a pleasure to share a track with all of you and lets hope we can continue for the rest of the season.

Last but not least, A massive thank you to Pierre and Purolator for some exceptional setup work. Without this, the whole thing wouldn't have been half as fun. Also to Doug and everyone else involved in making this happen. It was a lot of work, but definitely worth it. I fully expect (hope) we'll be seeing some more touring car action later in the year smile
