Event 5: Norisring


Introduction

The points championship for Group 1 and Group 2 is tighter than ever thanks to the Brands Hatch event. It's going down to the final set of races at Norisring. For the finale, there will be an inverted field 10-lap race, points awarded on best qualifying, and a 170 km race with two mandatory pit stops to emulate a real DTM. Fuel will be left open as a free setting as it was for Brands Hatch.

Event Format

Sunday, 6 March
All times eastern US

12:00-12:15
Official Practice

Race 1:
12:15 - 12:45
10 laps
no qualifying - inverted field set during 5 minute warm-up based on overall championship points
formation lap, standing start
no mandatory pit stop

"Race" 2:
12:45 - 1:00
10 minute qualifying
Fastest 5 qualifying Group 1 cars get points
Fastest 5 qualifying Group 2 cars get points
No other points awarded in this segment (e.g. "finishing")

Race 3:
1:00 - 2:30
75 laps (170 km race)
formation lap, standing start
two mandatory pit stops
NOTE: full flags and safety car (to keep the race close)

Mandatory Patch! (added February 25th)
Be sure and back up your existing \GameData\Locations\Norisring2008\Norisring2008.gdb file. Save it elsewhere and do not overwrite. Download and install this modified Norisring2008.gdb file which tweaks the Safety Car. Thanks to Darren!

If you want to update your car skin, please keep the exact same file name and email to guod no later than 0600 GMT on Thursday, 3 March.

Fixed Setups with Free Settings
In-game track start time: 1 PM
Fuel Setting: 1x
Tire Wear Setting: 1x
Driving Aids: Auto Shift and Clutch
Damage Multiplier: 25%
Flag Rules: Black only for race 1; Full flags for race 3
Private qualifying
Drivers do not need to come to a complete stop to ESC
Spectators allowed, but no in game chat available
Drivers can advance the server to the next session during practice
All 3 virtual mirrors available and highly recommended
Pit stops available for all services
Unique Vehicle Selection is off
No Parc Ferme

Free Settings Available

Series Points

a. Points will be maintained for the overall events, for Group 1 (Blue ) and Group 2 (Orange).

b. The points system per race will be:

1st - 10 points
2nd - 7 points
3rd - 5 points
4th - 3 points
5th - 2 points
Finish, but not 1-5 place - 1 point

c. Points are not transferable from one group to the other group EXCEPT for driver promotion from
Group 2 to Group 1. Should a driver in Group 2 achieve 3 wins, the points from those 3 wins
will be transferred with him to Group 1. No other drivers points are transferred.

d. Any driver can switch to the other group at any time, but points are not transferable between Groups
excepting promotion from Group 2 to Group 1 with 3 race wins.

Conversation is fine during practice and warm-up
Please maintain radio silence during qualifying
Please limit you conversation during the race to one sentence

Weight Penalties

A 45 kg weight penalty will be assessed to all Group 1 cars for all races.
An additional 5 kg will be assessed after a Group 1 driver wins 5 races.
Each additional 5 race wins will add an additional 5 kg to the Group 1 car.

Just to clarify - there is no 'race' 2 - it's essentially just an extended qualli session (with points)in preparation for the 1hr Race?

And qualli points will be awarded using the same structure as the main event (10, 7, 5, 3, 2)?

Correct. The 170 km race should last between 1:15 - 1:30 based on a 50 sec lap time.

Yes, except there will be no points awarded beyond fifth place.

P&P Engineering have produced their first version of the setup. Thanks guys!

It is currently loaded on the server for your feedback. Pierre did a lot of work to try and minimize the back-end coming around at the end of the drag strips straightaways.

See what you think and please provide feedback in here.

Gave the setup a quick try. Seems good so far, nice and stable under braking and acceleration which is the most important thing. There's also a tiny bit of nicely predictable power oversteer which i find helpful in the chicane. Bit of dffiulty getting heat into the fronts and the RL takes a beating but i suspect there's little you can do about that.

Overall i think it's pretty solid.

Thanks for youre input Darren ,

About the oversteer in the chicane it was purposly meant that way at first to bring the car around those hairpins by adding negative cambers and loosing up the front sway bar , and then by doing so it corrected the understeer i felt in the chicane.
As for the tyres temps issue , since i have little time for the next four days , i will ask my partner to give it a try on modifying the tire presssures and see...

Doug, would it be possible to set the server so we can add AI?? That way we can run a race session and get a feel for working with traffic and the safety car threshold.

10 Poindexters loaded. You can delete any/all of them if you want to practice by yourself.

Here is the line in the PLR that addresses trigger frequency of full course yellows:

MULTI Safety Car Thresh="1.00000" // Threshold for bringing out safety car (lower numbers -> more full-course yellows), please note that there are now RFM multipliers for this value

Doug.. I have hd to install my OS again and in doing so lost my RF installation. Can you just clarify what D/L's i need to run Norisring. I have managed to get on the server and cammed Darren and Dave's laps live, however when i joined today with all the AI i was getting "collision mismatch" errors. I want to be set for the race.

By the way, i did go on to the server and was pleasantly surprised at how many had made it on to practice at this time of day. I started to chat and then took a lap.. then I was called a Poindexter by Purolator. It was only at that point i realised they were AI!
