Yup. The Jedi studied a wide array of different subjects at the academy so its quite plausible that they understood the science behind the lightsaber quite well.

Which begs the question, how did Luke learn all that? He was never able to go to the academy.

Yeah, that didn't make sense to me since those Imperial speeders didn't show up until Return of the Jedi.

Yeah, I remember that shot where you see an AT-AT at the shield generator installation on Endor. Is it me or would using something so huge like an AT-AT in a densely forested planet be impractical?

When the trees are bigger than the AT-AT, I would suppose it's not too bad.

Actually, Luke was on that. He's brought to the landing platform to see Vader inside, and then you see him and the Imperials that caught him step out of the door on the side of it. While they're talking you can see the AT-AT's head behind them at their level.

As for Luke's information on the lightsaber, he found it at Ben's place after he goes there between ESB and ROTJ.

It isnt that large of a complication. His initial light saber was given to him. I am sure he pulled it apart and tweeked it a bit between then and Bespin. Then when he needed to make a new one he knew the pieces and made a better one. It is worth noting that he didnt have to construct any of the parts himself since it is a galaxy of space fairing people. He only had to acquire the parts and assemble them.

Sort of a "Jedi's Guide to Lightsaber Building" book? Maybe "Lightsabers Made Simple."

I think the canon answer is that between Empire and Jedi, Luke retired to Ben's hut on Tatooine and was instructed in the necessary skills by Ben's space-ghost thingy. He got the parts from the Mos Eisley branch of Radio Shack.

I seem to recall reading somewhere that a Jedi is expected to assemble the entire thing through the use of the force rather than messing around with screwdrivers and what not. That sounds pretty cool but must be a b*tch if you've got a hangover.

Well the things have been around for like 4000 years in the starwars universe. I would think the info would be online or in a libary some where. They are not top secret or anything.

What about the crystal, that's a rare part that he had to know where to go to get one...
