Here's a handful of photos I took last year at Cosford Air Museum (UK, Shropshire).

I plan to return this year.

Cheers

I don't know if it's the lighting but the pics have an odd almost computer rendered image quality to them but they are still cool thumbsup

Itīs a technique where you combine three images with different exposures into one so that you have more image data in the shadows and highlights, its called High Dynamic Ranging smile

Not sure the HDR fits all motives here, but doesn't look bad either.

What is that contraption in the first shot... eek

It's the Gloster Meteor F8 "Prone Pilot" test machine. Used to test if a prone pilot is more capable during G manouvers than a sitting one.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gloster_Meteor_F8_%22Prone_Pilot%22

I espesially like the ejection system on it:

Quote:
The prone pilot's emergency escape involved an extremely complex procedure which included jettisoning the rudder pedals, crawling backward to an escape hatch and retracting the nose wheel. Fortunately, this system was never used.

Yes, they are HDR. 3 auto-bracketed exposures for each picture.
A technique not to everyone's taste, but something I like to use now and then.

Big place, lots of aircraft, but I didn't get them all. My next visit will be better planned.

Full list of aircraft here - Collection

Thank you for the comments thumbsup

Lovely pics. I know this place well as I live only a few miles away and have been there many times. They hold a good annual airshow as well. You got some very nice angles there.

My car club is holding a meet there next month too smile

Thanks for the nice comment.

Yes, they do great shows and on June 12th I'll be there! The Vulcan will be there too, sadly absent last year as will the Chinook display team, another favourite of mine.

Only 30 minutes on the train for me smile

Great!

We cheat biggrin

We park on the Wolverhampton road and watch it from there! To be honest it's because my girlfriend only likes the jets and not the crowds or the 'slow planes;' as she puts it. But we see most of it and it's free.

Must admit that effect you get in the photos is very erm.....effective! That Vulcan shot is almost 3D clapping

Slow planes? Slow planes?!! The girlfriend needs some edumication! wink Slow planes are the way ahead, I'm not talking 'bug smashers', but proper Merlin or Griffon powered beasties. Not only do they sound sweet-as, but they look the part too...

Yep I agree but you know what women are like.

But if drive over 40 mph she starts pressing the invisible brake pedal and trying to climb into the back.

Yeah, thats strange. My car has one of those and I'm sure I never specified an invisible brake pedal in the options pack... or the GPS type "Watch out for that car!!!" call that erupts everytime she sees a car on the horizon.. wink

I guess you mean me wave

It's a Canon SX1 IS. I was seduced by the feature set and price (Ģ384 at the time). 28mm to 560mm (35mm equiv), 10mp, cmos sensor, Full HD video (43mb/s). Great on paper but not quite what I hoped for. HD video is exceptional, but images are a bit noisy and not as sharp as I'd like.
I do like the camera and know I got a good deal. Currently Ģ499 on Amazon (where I originally bought it) and they've had it higher! Bizarre considering it is now discontinued.

I've had noisier cameras in the past. This is worth it just for the video capabilities alone. With eneloop batteries, it goes on forever!

I've put off DSLR for too long, never feeling ready for them. I think I'm there now, but unfortunately do not have the funds frown
I won't sell the SX1 just yet though, as it is great for video. DSLR is going to have to wait a while longer. I'll be there one day.

Thanks for that comment Old Dux thumbsup

Very nice, the experimental hall houses some strange looking aeroplanes. I couldn't belive the size of TSR.2, when you see archive footage it doesn't prepare you for the real deal. I wonder if we'd be pensioning her off if we still operated the TSR.2 today?

Thanks. I would love to be able to produce images like that. I guess you need them in RAW for the processing?

I shot them as fine quality JPEG. I could have done RAW, but I needed exposures in quick succession as they were hand-held. RAW takes longer to write to the SD card and I was worried about movement. With JPEG I could shoot at up to 4fps.

I don't actually know if RAW would make that huge a difference to HDR? I imagine it would but I'd have to experiment or read up on it...

An eye-opener for me HarryR.
How it can fly with those stubby wings is beyond me!

Very nice pictures! thumbsup

And a very nice collection of planes at Cosford it seems. Even an Ex-RDAF Catalina.

The TSR.2 frown Every time I see it I'm saddened at the folly of some politicians who didn't have a clue what they were doing!

To be fair I think they did in this instance. It would have been obsolete before it became operational. It's good for the plane fans but not good for the tax payer.
