I found "Destroyer Command" for four bucks and change on Amazon, so I bought it. I've had many hours of fun in the past with this title, despite the less than sparkling reviews.

Anyway, I installed it from disc under Windows 7 64-bit Home Edition, launched the game, no problem, ran perfect! Patched it to 1.1 (disc is 1.03) and it runs great! No compatibility settings or anything necessary. So I've been enjoying an old favorite.

BTW, if anyone knows what file the game stores resolution info in, I'd love to try to get it running in high def wide screen. But I've checked "sim.ini", "config.ini", the registry, everything I can think of, and I can't find the resolution setting to edit. Right now, it runs in the box at 1024x768x32. I'd like to try to get it running at 1920x1080 high def.

Now, if "Destroyer Command" runs perfect under Windows 7 64-bit Home Edition, then it follows that Silent Hunter 2 should run, I believe they're the same engine. SH2 is another old favorite, I may have to pick up a copy.

One caveat: My system is an AMD Phenom II 1090T 6-core with an ATI Radeon 5870. I have read in the little information that I could find before I bought it that it runs fine in Windows 7 as long as you're running an ATI video card. Apparently, it doesn't like nVidia cards. I can't verify this, but you might want to consider it before buying the game if you're so inclined. It might work with the nVidia card in Windows 7 or it might not. Thought I'd better mention that.

Cheers!

I still have the original game (recently rescued from the attic).
It wouldn't run on my Win 7 64 bit system and I have a Nvidia card.Looks like you may well be right.

Yep I sold my copy a couple of years ago as it wouldn't run on my Nvidia card at the time. I wish I had held onto it as I enjoyed it quiet a bit and have an ATI right now.

If you liked Ship Simulator, I highly recommend the Virtual Skipper series. Gorgeous graphics, and I'll be the first to admit I'm not a sailor they seem to have the ship handling spot on. You can race online as well as against the computer, quiet a bit of fun.

I had Virtual Skipper 2, I think it was, loved that. Looks like they're up to number 5. I should grab a copy. I always liked Virtual Skipper.

Cheers!
