chaps,
I run the onboard sound from my MOBO, Realtek ACL889 i believe.

Now i am thinking of getting a surround headset (speakers not feasable in my house)however word on the street is that a decent standard headset coupled with a decent soundcard will outperform something like a Medusa 5:1 headset. Is this the case? If so, how do i enable this on my onboard sound? In fact, do i even need to enable it, will it do it automatically?

Any guidance on how to set up to hear the bullets coming or the cars approaching would be appreciated.

Cheers
Myrig.

If you're going with 5.1 headset, then Medusa headset is the one to get.

For everything else take a look into this guide:

After trying out many 5.1 headsets, both USB and analog - I can only vouch for this guide based on personal experience. For the same price a stereo headset will blow out of the water any 5.1 headphones. The only downside is that you have to get a mic separately. So far, Zalman's clip on is serving me nicely. smile
