Uh, what the title says. You may have read a million articles that all say the same thing: nothing much new here unless you're running a server edition, mostly an update rollup. An HDMI audio fix is mentioned; hopefully W7 will no longer panic when it detects an onboard & VGA audio device in use simulataneously.

Available today at your local Windows Update store. Standalone is here:

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/en/details.aspx?FamilyID=c3202ce6-4056-4059-8a1b-3a9b77cdfdda

If there are any enterprising individuals who try to slipstream it, please share your success or troubles along the way!thumbsup

I wondered when the first service pack was gonna get released. I've never upgraded with an SP for the added features to benefit from personally, but only if a specific piece of software I've wanted to use has required it.

I'm using Windows 7 64-bit and I attempted to install SP1 through Windows Update but it got stuck at 25% during installation for more than an hour. Clicking on "Cancel" to stop installation did not work; CTRL-ALT-DEL to cancel it through the Task Manager did not work, the Restart option on the Shut Down menu did not work so I had to shut it down through the power button. I had to use System Restore and Startup Repair to restore it to the state prior to attempting SP1 installation.

I'll have to do some research on how to successfully update to SP1 in the coming days.

Updated to SP1 on Windows 7 64 bit, now get an error message that FSinsider is corrupted when I start FSX. Also changed a number of my settings on different devices such as sound.

A word of advice to anyone who is thinking of upgrading to SP1. Don't get it just for the sheer hell of it or to be able to say you've got 'Windows 7 Service Pack 1'. Only bother with it if you genuinely think it will benefit your computer use or you know for a fact that it will address a serious issue you have.

If it ain't broke, don't fix it (and break other stuff in the process).

Good advice Flyboy. Regret letting my computer do the update. Now can't restore to a previous restore point. May have to reinstall Windows or try an advanced recovery

Did the update, haven't had a chance to test everything yet. Went smoothly!

No problems here. Took about 15 minutes. No changes that I can detect, but I wasn't expecting any, either.

Installed it on both my desktop (64-bit) and my netbook (32-bit) without any issues.

Screwed up VOX ATC and Multicrew Experience for me. Both worked fine before installing SP 1. Tired to do a restore point without any luck. Looks like I will have to do a clean install of Windows.

Good lord, people. So many issues! Maybe MS should send this back to the beta stage. Guess I'll wait a few more days to observe public reaction. I was really looking forward to that improved HDMI audio support frown

I never thought about the possible issues this may have caused and installed it asap.
I got an error when installing the update but a re-start seemed to sort it out.
So far no problems,fingers crossed.

There are, unfortunately. always going to be at least a few people having problmes with a service upgrade like this. But from what I have read on the web seems this is really quite a smooth upgrade for the vast majority of windows7 users.

You can take a look at http://www.sevenforums.com/ if you want a good perspective on whether or not to install the service pack.

I have quite an extensive homenetwork due to my profession and my association with a University.

  • "Windows 7 32 bit" (old Ibm T42 Laptop)
  • "Windows 7, 64 bit" (Core2 Duo, gaming rig)
  • "20008R2 Standard" - Active Directory server based on a Intel Atom
  • "2008R2 Datacenter" my file and Hyper-V server on an old AMD
  • "2008R2 Web" virtual server
  • "2008R2 Standard" Virtual server, running Active Directory.

They all took a long time to install sp1, but there have not been any problem. The update went smoothly on all but the file/Hyper-V server.
On the Fileserver the install aborted, but I found the not so obvious solution with some help from Google.
All I had to do was to make the boot partition visible screwy

In essence, 5/6 went smoothly. That a 83% initial success rate (and a 100% after a bit of fidling); Way better than the public transport in Denmark or our politicians.

As errors get reported, I am sure solutions will be found for 99% of all the installation errors.

I tried installing it several times. I get an error message along with 2 other updates. Shouldn't this hard to update a system.

64 bit Home Premium updated on two machines. OK it took a while to come down the line but the only glitch was one of the machines hung on shutting down on restart. Came back up just fine though.

Downloaded and installed it through Windows Update on my 64-bit OS. No problems on the install or with programs running afterward, so far.

I did however repair Windows Update first using a new hotfix, just in case:

There is a 32-bit version, too.
