I am in the process of researching components for a new system and need some serious opinions and suggestions. I want the system to be about $800 (or less) and I want it to totally kick some ass. Here is what I've come up with so far:

Basic system:

One of these Vide0 Cards (I want Nvidia, I've had ATI for years and want to switch):

DVD/CD drive:

Lastly will a sound card help out at all or is it's potential on improving system performance negligible? Sound Card:

That's all I can think of at the moment. Would love to hear from all the techie gearheads out there that have experience in these matters.

~S~ in advance for your assistance!

Skip the 460 SE as it's a crippled version. Also skip the 768Mb version as it's not as good as the 1Gb version. EVGA has the best customer support. With good cooling the GTX 460 can run close to a 470 and outrun a 465 so I would think a 465 would not be a good buy unless very cheap.

I would get 2X4Gb memory rather than 2x2Gb as memory is so cheap now.

Gigabyte makes good mobos and I don't really know about that one, but I imagine it's OK.

Most of the Newegg house brand stuff in Rosewill and generally good. Not sure who makes their power supplies. For 90 bucks you can get a name brand Antec 750W though. Most all of Antec's power supplies are made by Delta, one of the best PSU makers there is.

The burner you have listed is the OEM version and comes with no cables or software. I would get a retail Liteon myself as they come with Nero Essentials CD and have the cables too.

Also save your money on the sound card. These processors now are so powerful the onboard audio will not affect frame rates like in the old days.

SKIP:

The 460 SE, its a Stripped 460.
The 460 768, The 1 GB has Wider Memory Bus
The 465, its a Stripped 470, and runs just as hot, and has no OC headroom.

Drop the sound card and use the savings on a GTX 560 Ti card or 1GB AMD 6950 card, depending on your preference.

Either card will trump a GTX 470 and run much cooler.
