7zip. Fast, great compression across all formats, x64 support w/large pages option, no 'BUY ME' nag screens and such.

Many more free & open-source ones that are highly recommended by several (FreeArc comes to mind). Best to try some yourself and see what works for you.

For me, I'm no longer bothered about compression ratio's, there's really not much need with today's hard drives. All I really use ZIP files for is to cram numerous files all into a single file - mainly for archiving and distribution. Today, I look for reliability and stability over compression values.

RAR offers recovery records to help with file corruption. If you ever downloaded a 7z file that was corrupted in some way during the download, you can appreciate RAR.

I use PowerArchiver, mainly because RSColonel_131st recommended it to me years ago. wink Does a good job for what I need it to do.
