Do you have to own CFS3 to use ROF or OFF? Thinking of getting one of them.

Not for ROF. It's standalone and worth it. Highly recommended.

FYI though, they have a sort of micro-transaction system (which isn't really micro now that I think of it... but the premise is the same.)

You don't get a huge cadre of aircraft on initial install, but you can buy other aircraft that they've developed if you want. I haven't done any of that and just use what's given.

It's a really pretty game and the damage modeling on the planes is bar none. Quite amazing.

I also tried OFF, but you know, that's a really dated engine and it's getting long in the tooth.

I think you'll be more satisfied w/ ROF, but that's just my humble opinion.

If your into a single player immersive experience I'd say get OFF or wait for OFF pahse 4...if you fly MP or love sims like FSX then get RoF.

Rise of Flight also has a demo. Actually it's a working limited time use demo worth checking out.

But did you try OFF: Beyond Heaven & Hell (Phase 3)? Or did you try an earlier version? ROF is fun for single aircraft physics and dogfighting online or offline, but OFF:BH&H has the most important thing in flight simulation for me: IMMERSION. I own and play both. I find myself spending a lot more time with OFF:BH&H than ROF.

Just an update. I made the plunge and went with RoF, very happy that I did. Great sim.
