So my parents cleaned out their house recently. They handed me a box full of stuff and, lo and behold, in it was my copy of NR2003!
I was wondering if anyone could point me in the right direction as to how to start applying mods and getting it up to date. I did some googling and was overwhelmed by the amount of stuff out there. I have no idea even where to begin. Any links or guides would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Here's a pretty decent site, at least in my opinion because they've got quite a few 1990 Mod cars I painted.... RacinGrafix There's links there to all of the Rioux mods for NR 2003 and some other mod sites as well.

Thanks, guys! I installed a few different carsets from the links provided. Man, I am amazed how good this game still is.
Anyone here play it online? Seems like it would be a lot of fun.

If I could get it to run on my system, I would still be running it...for some reason, it doesn't seem to like my Windows 7 configuration...

I haven't tried installing on my Windows 7 machine, but I had problems getting it to run on my Vista machine, which is my main gaming rig. It installed fine, started up ok, but crashed to desktop any time I clicked on "Drive." Did a little bit of searching and came across this on another forum. Windows Data Execution Prevention (DEP) needs to be turned off. Seem to do the trick for a lot of people running both Vista and 7. Hopefully it works for you:
Run a command prompt as administrator. From the start menu, select “All Programs”, then “Accessories” and right-click on the “Command Prompt” shortcut and choose “Run As Administrator”. From here you can use the following command to disable Data Execution Prevention (DEP) with the following command:
bcdedit.exe /set {current} nx AlwaysOff Then Restart your computer. This will remain off ALWAYS!
If you do not feel secure after racing your game turn it back on by putting in the following command
* DO NOT DO THIS IF YOUR GOING TO RACE ANYMORE FOR THAT COMPUTER SESSION OR YOU WILL HAVE TO DISABLE AGAIN*:
bcdedit.exe /set {current} nx AlwaysOn then restart your pc and it will now Be ON!

I've tried that trick with DEP, wouldn't work for me for some reason...I spent a whole weekend trying different things after I built this rig I came across in forums I've visited over the years and could never get anything to work.
I haven't tried that VHR mod for rFactor, probably because I've always doubted that it would reach the expectations I'd have from it set by years of running the Papyrus NR series.

Other than my beloved Amiga, I've found NASCAR Racing 2003 Season runs perfectly on both my Pentium 4, 3.4 GHz machine with a Geforce 9800 GT, and Win XP3, AND my i7 920, with GTX 285 and Win7 64Bit. No problems at all running on Windows 7. I did nothing special. Just a straight install and it works. It's crazy running this venerable sim with everything turned up to maximum, including all shadows, full car grid, and getting 245 frames per second, five times the frame rate on my Pentium 4! I love it.

I installed it on my vista machine. Installed fine and loaded up fine. Just couldn't calibrate my wheel (ecci ts6000). Something about the steering being a single axis. Honestly I haven't really explored it any. I was looking to get it setup with all the aids on and in arcade mode for my 5 yr olds. Thought they would geta kick out of it
