Hi guys Im looking into building my first cockpit as a friend of mine has offered to help me make it. I'm thinking of building something along the lines of the obutto pit using a car seat and constructed out from steel box section. I would buy a pre built one but I dont really want to spend £400 on one so I thought id have a crack at knocking one up. Im not sure yet on how im going to go about with this project so if anyone has got anything to share, then your more than welcome to chime in.

You have come to the right place! I'd set aside a couple of hours and first stroll through this thread:
Please, Show off your Pit.

That is likely the best place to start in thinking about what kind of design you prefer...and how it fits into your available space, cash and possibly acceptance by a significant other. wink

Your imagination is your only limitation...well, maybe your wallet...and then there is that 'Wife Acceptance Factor'...but other than that; the skys the limit.

Seriously, you ought to check out this website: Mikes Flight Deck; Books
Click on the 'Sample Pages' and mike does a very good job of addressing those salient points you should likely consider as you plan for your simpit. What balance of cost, realism, space, etc. will you likely be shooting for.

me, I've been plugging away at my simpit for over a year now and all I have so far is a really fancy bed for the cats. frown

Regards,
Derek
