Well, my guess is Pirahna games is working on other projects to fund this one. Also, there was a cease and dissist sent by Harmony Gold (owners of Robotech in the US) because they said the warhammer was too close to the Tomahawk, which I thought was silly. It's a similar shape but a totally new design.
With all of the robot games comming out these days, Armored Core, the new Steel Battalion on xbox, I can't imagine why this wouldn't sell.
MechWarrior: Living Legends is a total conversion modification for Crysis and Crysis Wars that buildes upon MechWarrior and BattleTech games of the past to provide players with an entirely new combined arms combat experience. Players make use of 'Mechs, tanks, hovercraft, VTOLs, aerospace and powered armour to engage in battle across massive otherworldly landscapes.
I'd trade them all for a new Chromehounds with a forced cockpit view. I do hope Mechwarrior works out though, I loved MW2 on PC. Also hope that Steel Battalion is something like the original. Wish I'd gotten into that one with the ultimate sim dash/flight stick set. I know they say it will us Kinect for some controls, but I hope it's not limited to just that.
Agreed, CH could have been better if the builds had been kept to "traditional" styles like people used when it started. Forcing a cockpit view would've been huge, the hidden cockpits were silly. The garage, MP structure and customize-ablility were things that all MP games should learn from. The War was amazing, as were the 100's of maps.
Steel Battalion probably won't be like the last, but simmpler. Supposed to incorporate Kinect for some controls.
As strange as it is to call anything with mechs anything BUT arcade, I know what you mean. Hard to get into the fast paced Armored Core type games. I like the old school slow movers that have some weight to them.
Agree, I certainly prefer the more "sim" mech games than the twitchy speed based ones.
At times it felt like the Mechwarrior games had a good blend, some system representations/simulations, and they had that heavy feeling as well. But, Steel Battalion is still the king, and sadly, I don't think we'll ever see something like it again. One reason why I'm still hanging onto it and my original xbox.
I watched the trailer for the new SB which came out like 5 months ago I guess, but haven't seen anymore info on how the Kinect is supposed to control the mech...just a wee bit worried with that.
That's one of the key reasons Battletech / Mechwarrior appeals to me, they're not super fast machines! I mean, granted, they have light and medium mechs which are quite capable of hauling plenty of ass, but they're not super stupidly agile like some of those armored core mechs. I know this is obviously an american perspective, but I want my mechs nice and cumbersome feeling, and the original trailer NAILED that. I just hope it's not dead, as i'm a big battletech fan.

I totally agree with the heavy mech feelings. And too be honest, I have been enjoying (for the first time) mechwarrior 4 which is free.
Back to mw5 saga, what I find confusing is the cease and desist. As it relates to artwork of an intellectual property, then surely all pictures and videos should be removed from piraha's website. However, they are still there in plain view and that has me boggled.

Why do we love a country where everthing in it can kill us (even the women)
The rights to Mechwarrior, Crimson Skies and Shadowrun were all bought by Smith & Tinker, a company built by the head guy from FASA before whatever happened there. Piranha is making the MW game for them, just as they're farming out the work to develop their other games, but MW comes first. I wouldn't worry that anything is getting slowed down.
I remember having Earth Seige 2, but I don't remember anything about it other than the cover.
Technical nitpick. MechWarrior/BattleTech, Crimson Skies and Shadowrun are all licensed by Smith & Tinker. Microsoft still owns the electronic entertainment publishing rights to them.
And the guy who runs Smith & Tinker, Jordan Weisman, was the founder of FASA, he then formed WizKids LLC (makers of Mage Knight and Heroclix), before going on to becoming VP of Gaming at Microsoft. He then formed Smith & Tinker
And the dispute over the 'Mech images is something that goes back 20 years.
