At about :10 seconds the guy with the cam on his helmet nearly kills a friendly strafing left in front of him. Luckily his weapon jams after the one “lucky” shot . You’ll notice the cam guy regain himself after his error and clear his weapon at :13 seconds.

That kinda looks like an exercise to me as the helmet cam guy never goes for cover.

Dunno if it's an exercise because I see no blank adapters on the weapons. I think the guys stands up cuz the afghans are reportedly notoriously bad shots. (thank god) IEDs are a different story.

I noticed him clearing the weapon also. I'd share the blame also with the guy who ran in front of him. There was a little creek/berm to the right that he coulda jumped into. But I can't really say more than that cuz I wasn't there smile

Most certainly not a training exercise... you can hear the distinctive crack of incoming rounds...

That was a close call, hopefully if his weapon hadn't jammed, he would have seen him coming. Still it wasn't a great situation to begin with as he had to fire over/past his own guys. Given the chaos of the situation, I'd imagine S#%& happens with everyone reacting at the same time and you just have to be as careful as possible.

It seems strange for me that the guy filming is kind of the only one doing anything (shooting, grenades, etc).

Maybe he's a squad leader? Notice I'm not and I was not ever in the military, so if the answer is obvious...

I feel sorry for the guy shouting about 1:52, apparently he was being stung by a bee.

I'm guessing that's a live fire exercise in the the good old U.S. of A. smile

The first ten seconds just bothered me ...

Grunt: "Alright, I'm gunna get a great position."

Cam Guy: "Told ya it was right here."

(Cam Guy places some sort of device on bridge.)

Grunt: "Huh?"

Cam Guy: "Told ya it was up here."

(All stupid hell breaks loose.)

Most importantly ... the strafing left guy had a horseshoe stuck up his ass that day.

I think he put his weapon down as he got out his grenade launcher (me want)

I still think that this was not a live fire exercise. Too casual in a strange way, usually it's all safety, safety safety and they'd have called out that goober fer running in front of his SL. BTW vis a vis no one else shooting, After WW2 it was found that in combat that only 2 of every ten guys was actually firing their weapon. Most were taking cover, moving or otherwise engaged. So in some ways it mirrors that finding. That's why crew served weapons were so important they tended to fire the most because the crew reinforced each other.

BTW no bunny hopping!!! smile

Basically it's a near ambush retro out of contact and seems to be in Panj(sp?) At least that's what this chairborne ranger feels smile

Looks like guys from the 3rd BCT 101st Airborne in Afghanistan. Terrain looks like Afghanistan and unless people decided to make training more exciting by firing live ammo at the participants, it's not an exercise (you can hear the supersonic crack of bullets flying past when they come under fire). No way it's training.

You're right Beltfed. I digress. I took a harder look and saw that the "device" the guy placed on the bridge (you can sort of see it at 5:43) is some sort of gun ... looks kinda like a weird shotgun or something. I think they call it a "goldie" or something like that when they risk the SL's life to go fetch it and one frag.

I still find it strange that the SL has a camera going during a patrol. I guess maybe that’s a hot spot that they usually encounter activity and decided to film it this time.

The whole thing just looks off-kilter to me. It's almost like they're filming a "What not to do" training video but thanks for sharing! smile
