If I had to choose between say a 40"+ LCD monitor at a resolution like 3500x2000 (or something like that) over 3x 24" (or even 30") screens, I think I just might, mainly for the seamless image (no border lines from the different monitors) and for the sheer awesomeness of such a monitor for watching blu-ray and HD video. And with a resolution like that, there would be a fair amount of peripheral vision in both sims and first-person shooters.

It seems like 30" is the size that computer monitors have topped out at, though. It would be nice if sizes and resolutions continued to increase.

LCD tvs are irrelevent to what I have in mind, no matter how large they are, given their lowly resolutions (1920x1200 or something like that- way too low for use as a computer monitor).

Think this might eventually happen?

How big do you think people's desks are? biggrin

The difference between spanning multimonitors and one large one is the aspect ratio. Even a monitor over 30" will still be 16:9 for TV, but I don't need that much vertical real estate in a game sitting a couple of feet in front me, I need more at the sides. By using 3 monitors, you have a 48:9 ratio viewing area, which is far more useful.

+1 Jedi Master.

Even with three 19" monitors at 1440 x 900, the wide viewing angle and extra viewing area make up for the lack of vertical room by a long shot.

The only thing I don't like about 16:9 is that some morons in the industry thought "Let's cut down the vertical resolution instead of increasing the horizontal resolution like 16:10!"

The end result? Lots of 1920x1080 monitors, with 1920x1200 monitors being twice the price. I won't settle for anything less than 1200 vertical lines, since then a 1600x1200 image wouldn't fit. That would be a downgrade from what I currently have.

That said, if 3840x2160 ever becomes commonplace, I might still be interested regardless.

Yeah, but you have to be able to read text on the screen, including text in game menus. Anything smaller than 1920 x 1200 is too small for me. And what's the point of three monitors? Pepper must make beau coup bucks - God bless him - to afford such an extravagance. Can I afford triple 30 inch monitors? Probably. But I'd rather spend the extra money on upgrading my house, something that just might actually increase in value. Besides, I have two kids in college at the same time, one in private school.

I just ordered a Dell UltraSharp, 24 inch, 1920 x 1200, IPS Panel, with all the latest connectors, including DisplayPort. This is more than enough for me.

Sorry, I was a bit abrupt. Had a ...domestic emergency smile

Of course, everything outside the norm will cost you lots of extra money. Economics of scale and all that.
It will be interesting to see what can be done when printable OLED fabrication ramps up (If ever, but here's to hoping cheers ).

There are full 2.34:1 ratio TVs? I never heard of one let alone even saw one. I certainly can't go down to a store ANYWHERE in my county and find one.

Anyway, with 1920x1080 being HD resolution, it made sense that the 1920x1200 would be relegated to niche since people hate those "damned black bars" so much and so many people oddly watch TV on their PCs, because I guess sitting at a desk for 2 hrs beats the couch? As it is HD TVs screw you when you watch 1.85 films since the TVs are just 1.77...you lose the very edges of the picture. Likewise 2.35 films only have relatively small black bars vs what they should have.

I watched 2.35 films on 4:3 TVs for over 10 years and had no problem with those bars, I think it's crap that the decision was taken from me.

As for the next step in res... 4k.

4k is the next resolution for movies and as with FullHD, I guess it'll be quickly followed by display manufacturers.

4k is 4096 x 2160. smile
