I prefer real combat sims where my performance actually has an impact on the war around me instead of just bombeing stuff unopposed and for funsies.

I dunno- the sheer goodness of that VRS F/E-18 Superhornet, the myriad scenery and world possibilities of FSX, the sweet graphics, and then weapons and damage effects. No way I'm saying no to that.

I do not think you will be unopposed. The trailer clearly shows an SA-2 about to ruin a Superhornets day. Plenty of "real" combat sims out there have scripted missions with no dynamic campaign. These guys are doing amazing things with FSX so, who knows what they will be able to pull off?

Pickings are very slim these days for good combat aviation sims. I am gonna support any effort I can with my money.

I am interested in any product that offers a recreation of western carrier ops. Getting on and off of a carrier is plenty of fun for me.

I also like multi-player dogfighting. Those are the reasons I am interested in this product.

You don't really affect the war around you in most combat flight sims. Falcon is the only one I've played that actually generates changes to the combat environment, depending on how the missions pan out.
I'm interested in flying and fighting with a realistic world around me. As a single combat pilot , I'm not going to change the course of battle, anyway. I'd be more concerned with putting my ordnance where headquarters say it's supposed to go, and then making it home.
I am, very much, looking forward to this. The military airplanes that I have, are some of the most accurate, realistic models, that I have seen on a computer. I'd love to do something with them besides fly around.
Theres hardly a single historic air battle, that you couldn't re-enact in here, if this is done the way I'm hoping. Imagine heading for North Korea in that beautiful Section 8 F-86. Intercepted by guys taking off from Antung, China, in their MiG-15s.
Flying Cloud 9 Phantoms out of Thailand and heading for Hanoi. There's a nice MiG-21 and MiG-17 put out by someone. Don't have have 'em, but I'd buy them for this.
Escorting A2A B-17s to Germany, in your A2A P-51D or Fighter Leader P-51B. Get jumped by an bunch of guys flying Flight 1 109's. Would be neat.
And, of course, there's the VRS F-18.
I'll still enjoy the "Peace and Love" of FSX. I'm not going to stop flying my Beaver over that incredible ORBX Pacific Northwest scenery because of this.

Well, I play the combat sims for funsies too.

But you have a good point. The counter point is that there simply isn't a sim this in-depth of the F/A-18 out there with graphics that look like their from this generation. The Superbug is a study sim level representation of the Hornet, complete with carrier ops. Plus, as mentioned above, this gives the option to fill in the blank spots of the current combat flight sim genre (korea being one area that's VERY lacking right now!).

Will a dedicated, built from the ground up combat sim be better? Probably. But right now it's a great hold over till we get those dedicated sims.

I am all over this. Just ordered.

Hey if nothing else, we can design missions to simulate live training hops. Park a few tanks on a range someplace and practice delivering munitions. What do we think real Navy pilots do generally, when they aren't operating off a carrier -- or even when they are. It isn't all carrier quals.

In terms of actual combat, I think FSX can support 'mission level' immersion, meaning one off missions. Plus we are not limited to any particular area of the globe, which I really like.
