hey,

i've just built a new computer (it's a beast)

but in trying to put ROF onto my new baby i have run into a minor issue.

i orginally bought ROF as the demo download, then upgraded.

i have installed the demo then hit update. it seems to download to about 20 per cent then stalls and nothing else downloads.

any ideas?

There are some options:

  • Try later. the update server may have been busy.
  • Hit the "Repair" button.
  • Uninstall. Re-download the demo (it should be quite up to date), re-install and update.

repair button? i can't see that.

i've got the ROF launcher open. the best it will download to is about 40 or 50 per cent, then it just stalls.

Methinks you want the 'Recovery' button.

Nick, its to the right of the 'update' button in your desktop ROF launcher. Easy enough to spot. Smile2 It works well too, I've used it to sort out problems before.

Good luck.

Failed to perform update, see update.log for details

Thats bizarre Nick.

All I can think of otherwise is to reinstall the demo from scratch and try again. On your system, do you have UAC enabled? ('User Account Control' on Vista and W7). I did not take the update from demo route myself so I'm at a loss, but its known that UAC causes bad problems, and should be disabled (needing a reboot to do so properly). When you choose the update option, do you click on the 'neoqb server 1' (I think it says) line at the top left? Are you sure ROF is being allowed fully through windows firewall, or any other anti-malware etc programs? Another good idea is to run it with full administrator privileges.

Other than that, I'm stumped mate. Hopefully Jason or someone can chime in to sort you out. Sorry I can't help you anymore than that.

thanks biggles (I recently had a baby but my wife vetoed the name algernon)

reading the ROF forum it says i need to install a new file off their website - a master installer or somesuch.

i am trying that and am currently at 92 per cent download - but frustratingly it seems to have stalled again. i'll try a couple more times then reinstall.

does anyone know if downloading the demo anew would help? i downloaded mine not long after the game came out. has it been updated since?

cheers all for helping a luddite (where do i put the castor oil?)

Mmm, if you don't succeed, download the full, last version from official .torrent: (source )

After you install, simply login with your already-made account. BTW don't forget the skin packs:
