So what is everyone's dream for the perfect space sim?
I am not sure exactly what the perfect sim would be for me but there is one thing that always causes me to get tired of a sim. To me the one most important thing is that I want to play a character not a ship. I want a Silent Hunter 5 of the stars if you will. I want to walk around my ship in real time telling the crew what to do and then watch them do it. I am sick of all these games where you pilot a ship but for all intents and purposes you are the ship. It would be even better with coop where you could have 16 people all on the same ship doing different tasks to accomplish the mission.
What about everyone else? What would your perfect sim be? If that is too hard of a question then what is the most important aspect of a space sim for you?

I'm really very simple when it comes to this.
All I want is "Klingon Academy" with updated DX 11 graphics and "Tie Fighter" with updated DX11 graphics. Oh and I want full MP Cooperative support for both. I'd pay good money for those.
If we could combine... --Independence War 2 in general, missions, combat, movement and navigation as the foundation --Evochon's gateless travel, open universe and planetfall --X3:TC's look, mood, management options and especially presentation --Parkan 2's ability to board an enemy ship and attack as an FPS (forgot I even had that one!) --Mass Effect 2 for character interaction, storyline, voice acting, ground combat & locations, peripheral characters and in-ship movement --Equally playable with flightstick/kb or kb/m if you want. --Single player campaign/open universe and seemless co-op, of course.

Ah Lev Arris, the first time I came across Clive Owen was in this, I really like his acting and have enjoyed his other films. Loved playing Priviteer 2 it was like Elite but with better character developement. Yep something along the lines of this with up-to-date graphics/sound.

My dream space sims:
DCS: X-Wing*
Lock On: LTAIAGFFAC (Long Time Ago In A Galaxy Far Far Away Combat) - Flyable starcraft: RZ-1 A-Wing, T-64 X-Wing, Z95 Headhunter, BTL Y-Wing, TIE/LN Fighter, TIE Advanced, TIE Bomber
S-Foils Over Endor
Red Pill: Space Warfare
*I'd enjoy DCS: Consitution, as well, but the crew AI better be believable

...it would be a dream game to end all games.

Add in Bridge Commander to the mix and I'd settle for that

I Actually have a Copy of the Never Released "Stargate SG1 : The Alliance" First Person Shooter, Never Published (License Dispute), but press copies went out :p

Shadow and Vorlon ships would have to be a non flyable AI ship only.

I would love to see a game where you can seamlessly leave space and go planetside to destroy/interact with stuff. Thinking about it,didn't Derek Smart do this? I tried to play Battlecruiser 3000AD but gave up after so much disappointment.

Since it's SF, I would love them to be domed cities (Caves of Steel, Red Mars) and the outside just nature and farms.
As for jungle, imagining being able to fly over a green closed jungle canopy. But if it would happen that from engine failure or enemy fire one would crash there, you could have 20 seconds of blackout (but maybe still sounds?). After that you would wake up under the canopy in your craft and leaving it, you would be a Crysis like world. No clue if switching engines is needed or if just the environment that would need to be loaded.
Evochron does that. There's some other game that does it too, other than the "Smart" games. Can't remember what it was though.
LucasArts has been re-releasing reworked older games, but they didn't get around to the good ones yet. Was hoping for Roque Squadron, Grim Fandango etc, but instead we got Monkey Island. Ugh.

Agreed. Those ships require entire Minbari and Earth Alliance fleets to bring down!
Sure would be fun wouldn't it? Perfect boss battle missions to get a group together for. Some cases accomplish a mission and simply get outta there before they jump you. Every so long they amass to attack, then disappear beyond the rim...come back, attack...perfect for a big space based MMO.
Did they actually update the graphics or was it just made compatible with current hardware and Windows 7?
Yeah, they updated the graphics. In fact you could switch between the 2 on the fly.Didn't make it any better for me though.I guess adventures just aren't my thing.

: I like very much this, but even if i'm also a fan of X-wing and Tie Fighter, i would prefer DCS ROBOTECH: Veritech
Since i'm a kid i want a Robtech simulator, where you can fight on the planet, on space, and inside ships. With battles with thousands of fighters and ships, and a storyline driven similar to Descent Freespace 2.
