I have just spent most of the day trying to land ILS at Seattle after flying half way across the US.

I set my HDG at 341 and the Nav1 at 110.30 as per the map once ATS gave me the runway 34R but no way would it pick up the glide slope and I went round and round thinking I was doing something wrong until I noticed it was picking up the GS as I flew over the runway in the opposite direction! Clearly the frequency was wrong. So I approcahed from the opposite direction on the opposite HDG in the nav and sure enough it worked for the left runway on the opposite direction.

I did a Google and there are quite a few people wondering what they are doing wrong! So if you plan a flight into Seattle just beware the map frequencies are wrong for the given headings! They are probably just simply reversed in error but I was too fed up to stick around to find out.

A "cock up"? That phrase has perhaps a different meaning in the colonies. hahaha

Funny you mention it, I had this happen last week during a VA flight from Spokane to Seattle. I to was assigned to rwy34, same problem. I thought that it might have been the freeware CRJ I was using, but your post proves otherwise. I think downloading a new afcad might do the trick. Time to check AVsim.

Yeah it makes me wary now of any other flights. It would be good if there was an independent list out there we could rely on.

Well I need someone to tell me if it's me or FSX because something weird has happened.

I decided to test out Gatwick, London as I have landed there ILS quite a few times using hdg 80 on frequency 110.90 as per the map.

I have just flown from Paris to Gatwick and ATC said fly in using hdg 260 and land 26L. The map again says use 110.90. Except the GS didn't pick up so I tested from the other way (80) as GS picks up! So I went around and asked ATC for another runway but it only gave me 260 so I ignored it and approached from 80 and carried out a normal ILS landing.

Am I missing something (I am learning ILS landings so no expert) or are these frequencies wrong? Is it normal for runways to use identical frequencies from both directions? Surely this is bound to confuse ILS?

No, the frequencies are not identical for both ends.

You might want to try to pick up a custom made AFX file from Avsim or Flightsim for LGW and SEA. They might not just include an improved ground layout, but also updated/improved navaids.

Well I still have not solved this. Tried to land at Birmingham UK at rwy 15 and was given ILS 110.10 but as soon as I turned on the LOC it immediately swung me around 180. Again FSX gives the freq as 110.10 from both ends so I checked FScharts and it agrees it's the same both ends.

http://www.fscharts.com/index.php?action...g=1&event=1

The answer must be simple but I just don't understand why the ILS isn't being picked up.

Any ideas welcome.
