I did. Past tense. The single-player is awesome, great story and nice "customisation". I'm not one for optimized build orders and high commands-per-minute so I don't multiplay that much.

So, based on single-player and vs. computer fun, it's really good. An 8 or 9 out of 10. I can't wait for the next installment.

Based on online multiplayer, I can't comment because I've tried it twice and decided I suck so bad it was a waste of time.

Never played Starcraft I but my nephew pestered me to get the sequel and I haven't had this much fun playing a game in a long, long time. I usually play 4 vs 4 because you can suck and still contribute to your side. The games are usually quick but very engrossing, and once in awhile there will be epic battles that last over an hour. Another beautiful aspect of this game is that no two games are ever alike. There are so many ways to play and what works well one game may not work the next - it all depends on how well you scout, anticipate your enemies moves, and your communication with your allies. It is not a game where he who clicks the fastest wins, but one of strategic planning and execution. Hotkeys are essential to getting better. I highly recommend this game, and that's coming from a gamer who hates twitch games and feels more comfortable playing Civ than Call of Duty.

I think you'll enjoy it. A couple words of advice that you can take for what it's worth: I bought the strategy guide and it was very good. A lot of solid info in it, especially if you never played the original. Play the campaign before diving into multiplayer, and once you do play multiplayer, expect to be bad - very bad. Don't get discouraged. Watch youtube videos of matches and videos on tips for beginners. You will find yourself becoming better and better with each match. And probably the best tip I can give you is to learn to use hotkeys. Get a layout you are comfortable with and use it until you can do it in your sleep. Enjoy!

Starcraft 2 is about the only game i really play anymore. Single player is just a part of it while i would say 90% of the people who buy it are interested in the multiplayer aspect of it.

Single player is a good place to start off if you know nothing about the game. Although i believe you only really get to learn Terran with it. Once you finish the campaign, i would recommend playing a few games vs AI to get a generally grasp of the game with other races or to further explore terran if youd like.

Once you feel pretty comfortable playing hard/very hard computers then i suggest you to come on to battle net. As for the strategy guide I dont really think its worth it as its now outdated. A better place to learn about strategy and unit is this:

http://wiki.teamliquid.net/starcraft2/Strategy

another good source of information is a guy named Day(9) (recently listed in Forbes Top 30 at 30). He is a player but is more known for his show which he goes over things from basics to extremely advance plays.

http://blip.tv/day9tv/day-9-daily-184-newbie-tuesday-1-4171700

Also if you are afraid of devoting time into this game, Brood wars is finally considered dying out this last year, so that means it took about 14 years for it to die.

Things to know when you play online:

when you first play online, you will go through a series of placement matches where the game figures out your skill level. After that you will be placed in a league (from lowest to highest: bronze, silver, gold, platinum, diamond, masters, grandmaster)

If you win or lose a game, i suggest of making a habit of watching the replay of the game (sc2 has a very good built in replay system) to see where you can improve. Doing this will will help you improve your own builds and then help you recognize enemy builds which would allow you to more properly fight them.

Some basic tips of things you can practice from the get go:

a.Learn hot keys, saves you time, makes you faster
b.You will come across the word micro and macro alot. Micro means you carefully maneuver your guys so that they could do the maximum amount of damage. Macro means constantly using your money either on more structures or units.
c. try to keep a steady production of workers ( by the end of the game you should have about 75 workers)
d. have fun

You can watch pro matches right now but you will be confused by their extremely fast play style. So i say you hold it off until you start playing online alot. Feel free to ask me questions and if you play on the North american server im always interested in playing.

sorry i didnt read the year on this post didnt mean to dig up old threads

I have it and played SP but can't at the moment as I have my Blizzard account locked through the account verify system as I used to have a Galaxy S and had the app on there and I don't have it anymore but my account still wants the random code entered everytime!

SP was good but online was brutal lol

Have it and play it all the time. Took me a while to play the campaign but I love me some MP action.

Did you get it? I haven't played in a while but I'd love to. How do you play against a specific person (I only have ever done quick matches).

My name in the game is "Airdrop"

You have to add the person to your friend list
then make a custom game and right click on a open slot and select player from your friend list.

We are gonna play on the North american server fyi. Also to add you guys we will need your scren name and your i.d number which i think you can find out by going into battle net and look at your profile through the top right

That's a game I keep meaning to get back to. I scratched the surface a bit, got to the point I could beat the AI in Hard, but saw something shiny and got distracted from it.

From what I recall, the campaign also served as a good tutorial to get a handle on the mechanics (if not the strategy) of playing.

I'm BiffBeeper#220 on Battle net, for anyone who wants to add me...

I was able to find mine on the website. You log into battle.net and visit the SC2 section. If you click on your your name, it will show your number.

Just restarted the campaign myself as a way back into the game. Forgot how fun it was!

Still far too rusty here. Gotta look up build orders too. I haven't played in over a year, im sure there have been changes that need to be accounted for in the ones I used before.
