OK so I tried the navigator on other than flawless and before long the pilot is asking where are we ? So I took manual control of the nav station and corrected the drift and moved the plane slightly on the map and and clicked on the waypoints. Regardless of what I did the pilot kept asking where we were. Even after the AI navigator called out the new bearings and the B17 turned and stayed on course. This kept up until leaving the target then the pilot stopped asking.
My question is what do you do to stop the AI pilot from asking about the position constantly ?
Thanks

It been awhile... but I can't seem to remember the pilot complaining he’s lost. It’s usually the navigator saying something like: “Pilot from navigator: I’m really lost”. From your post, it looks like your doing right so It could be a bug I’ve never seen. However, it still sounds to me that your navigator may still be lost.

Use pilotage by looking outside in the 3D world for your actual position then move the plane icon (while in manual control) on the map to your actual position. Your actual 3D position need to be within a certain distance of your map position to be on course. It helps to adjust your waypoints on the map, so you fly over easily recognized landmarks that allow you to pinpoint your location. BTW..Adjusting the drift meter does not really help navigation, those readings are fed to the Norden bombsight calculations for bomb drift.

OOOOHHHHH that makes lots of sence !! Probably is the navigator saying that. SO looking down from above on the map in flight move the plane over a known point like a coast line. As I understand the shadow on the map is the actual location. I will try it out on the next mission. Also won't bother with the drift meter until passing the IP.
Sounds like this will be fun.
Thanks

.
The plane‘s icon and shadow on the map only show your estimated position .. You need to match the plane icon and it's shadow to your actual position in 3D.

To find you actual position..Go to the 3D outside view ( I think it’s F2) or ball turret. . Then look straight down to the ground . You should see the shadow of the your plane formation moving across the ground. That is your actual position. Your job is to match the plane icon and it’s shadow on the navigators map to your actual position in 3D by moving the plane icon on the map.

I don’t want to leave you with the impression that the drift meter is of no help before the IP. Knowing the direction of the wind drift can be helpful. For example, if you know that your formation has been pushed by wind drift, to the left since your last fix, you know that your current track lies to the left of your desired course and your next landmark fix will be to somewhere to right. You can also use wind drift for dead reckoning navigation… but that’s a whole another topic.

Hope this helps.

it worked. When the navigator started annoouncing he was not sure where he was I found where the plane was over the ground and moved it and the navigator was fine the rest of the trip.
