I forgot I even owned this game. I was doing some cleaning and found it in a corner of a closet. I was bored with A-10C...too much buttonology for me ATM so what the heck, I loaded it up, downloaded the patches and was happily surprised. I think I played it on a laptop when I bought it, cause for an older game, the graphics aren't that bad at all. Picked up a decent mod and am now about 150 years into conquering the world.

My C2D/GF 250 GTS system lets me do 5K+ man battles smooth as silk and I just finished a 10K man city fight. Elephants kind of piss me off though. eek

If you have it lying around and have never played it on a newer system give it a shot, I am pleasently surprised.

The only one I have used so far is Terrae_Expugnandae. Pretty good IMO.

It is a great game. The depth and creativity of it is just mind boggling. I've been thinking of breaking it back out and giving it a whirl again.

Get Europa Barbarorum. It transforms the game, gets rid of the silly units from the vanilla and introduces amazing strategic depth.

Medieval 2 with the Broken Crescent mod is also superb.

Rome and Medieval Total War 2 are among my favorite games. I have wasted many hours playing those.

Well Hiya Biff and Max wave

I am just about done with this campaign...finishing off Egypt and Carthage now. Parthia looks all big and purple off to the east. I think I am at around 90 BC.

It's just so cool to go thundering across a plain chasing stragglers with cavalry, or watching the enemies elephants panic and just mow thru their troops, not so cool when a bunch of elephants make it to my lines though. I think the next mod I will try out is the really historical one, Roma Surrectum II

It has completely redone battle maps and vegatation, looks really great.

Quote:
Brand new and in some cases custom made faction music
28 unique legions
Brand new models and skins for all factions as well as new factions
Unique campaigns tailored to each specific faction
An immersive yet understandable building tree
Several new battle-map buildings
New Traits and ancillaries, including Roman leadership tree envisioned by Calvin (R.I.P)
Two Roman Rebellions
A redesigned campaign map
New banners and UI
Regional resistance script that generates enemy armies after conquering a key enemy city
Free People Faction to simulate independent kingdoms
Diversified "barbarian" factions to highlight their uniqueness
Diverse Areas of Recruitment
Large mercenary pool
Presence of Historical characters
AUC (Ab Urbe Condita) system of year-keeping to prevent the 66BC CTD
Non-adoptable characters capable of forming new family trees
Greater Population control through buildings
Standalone Launcher
Faction Intro movies - Available in Separate Download
Custom victory conditions for each faction for improved AI and a more difficult game

I have spent literally hundreds of hours on Rome in particular. Unbelievably superb game.

Of the mods Europa Barbarorum is the tops Nixer.

Chasing a broken army down with cav is fun ok, but try taking on gauls in dense forest with your loyal legions...yikes shades of Teutoberger Wald.

Mind you the Greeks, Egyptions, Carthaginians etc are meat on the table.

Installation can be tricky. All info plus downloads are here Nixer:

http://www.europabarbarorum.com/downloads_mod.html

You need a clean Rome 1.5 install to begin with, and it's important to run the "adviser" script each time you open the game.

Thank you Mr. Max. This is a great and instructional MOD. Should you know of and have access to others in the series, from Japan to Rome to the Middle Ages, please share.

EB is pretty cool For those of you who may try it, make sure you get the hot fixes. You can find them HERE

I was getting lots of CTD's prior to installing them, better now but I still save game alot.

I think Roma Surrectum looked really good, but I was constantly getting CTD's with that and gave up for now.

Nixer I never have CTDs nowadays, though in the earlier versions they were common.

The thing you really must remember is to activate the script through the Adviser every time you start up or reload.

No problem with the script but I still get CTD's after big battles,,,might try a new install as I really like EB so far.

I got ambushed by a large enemy force while advancing towards a new town to capture and pretty much cleaned their clock. biggrin Then the game crashed after I pushed continue frown

At least screenshots are working for me now.

Well, so far a complete new install and mod install have done the trick...no crashes yet. I think I may have extracted the fixs to the wrong place first time around.

Yep even though it's old, I still play RTW (vanilla, EB, and Norman Invasion, Viking Invasion, Rome Total Realism, etc.)
And I also really like EB. It's probably the best mod out there. If you're looking for more mods, I would check Total War Center's forums. They have lots of mods over there.
BTW, if you don't have the expansions (particurarly Barbarian Invasion), you might want to check them out. Of course, all the other TW games are great too, but I think I'm rambling on a bit here. Have fun wave

I've had one game going for over a year now, just playing a few hours a week.

It's 195BC and I have ignored the Carthaginians, concentrating on an early conquest of the Balkans and Greece and setting my borders on the Danube. This gives huge revenues.

I'm now bogged down in Gaul, and haven't taken Spain yet, but it's on my list. This will cause trouble with Carthage and lead me into Africa.

After that I'll go for Anatolia and Syria.

Arrggghhhh! Don't get me started. I don't normally play these kind of games, but when I played RTW it took over my life. Heh heh, it's 11:00 PM and I'll just tell these guys to build a hippodrome then I'll go to bed - right after I fight this battle . . . 4:30 AM . . . oookayyyyyy, all done just like I planned.

Well I am at around 220 BC and just finished all of greece except the offshore islands...now I gotta build all those mining centers. Damn Macedonians were milling around in my territory so...I attacked first, Wiped out there two biggest forces already. Great fun. I love the city management in EB, BIG improvement.

I blame you and this thread Nixer! smile

I have been up late the past 2 night playing Medeival Total War: Kingdoms Expansion. I am playing the Britannia campaign as the Irish. So far the 3 British territories on my island are protected by low level troops so the fighting hasn't been too hard, but there are a lot of them. The British have a huge fleet sailing around so once Ireland is mine crossing to the main island may be interesting.

I had my best gaming years on Rome Total Realism - about 2 years.

Now I might re-install and try EB. I think I'll wait for Shogun, then go back and try EB. The graphics will be rough, but I have a feeling the large scale sweep will be a good alternative to the more focused scale of Shogun.

Hopefully I'll have time to play both .

Hi,

I just joined the club. RTW Gold and the Barbarian Invasion Expansion were on the DVD coming with the latest "PC Games Hardware" mag. Installed it and was instantly hooked.

Great Fun!
