I mentioned previously that after our low sec hunting party broke up we decided to form a corporation. Well, one of the other people in the group is the one who who started it and apparently while I was offline he was actively recruiting. I log in yesterday and the corp channel is full of people. I'm thinking "fantastic, this will be fun". I wave hello, get some waves back and then the next chat that comes up is talk of Veldspar

and Scordite

and which rock pays more per cubic meter

Then someone asks which PSP game they should play while they mine!

Are you not playing a game right now? Why not play that?
The chat goes on, it sounds like a meeting in accounting at some quarry and not the small group of space pilots it had been the previous night.
Finally our CEO logs on, "We need more opportunists in this outfit" I say.
"You mean pirates", chimes one of the accountants.
I retort, "Nay madam, I am but an opportunist, seeking adventure and a bit of fortune in the seedier regions of space", she says no more so I assume she went back to doing whatever it is that miners do.
One of the like minded pilots from the previous night, sounding relieved to be free from talk of rocks and ISK for the moment, asks what my plans are for the evening and I reply that I will be scouting out some more border systems to find a place where we could eventually stake a claim and he agrees to join. When asked if anyone else wishes to join us two of the pilots from the previous night say they are going to mine or haul ore instead, they have been well and truly converted by this large strike team of unknown accountants that has invaded our channel.
I plot a course back to the border system of the night before, my faster ship reaches the staging point before my partner and I idle 160km off the gate into low security space. After setting up my scanner and HUD for the night's activities I notice an interceptor class frigate standing off well above and behind the gate. Something about this doesn't feel right so I punch up the map and check the next system for ships and escape pods killed in the last hour, it shows that none have been destroyed but it also shows 4 pilots active within the last 30 minutes. This smells of a gate camp and I don't want our hunting party to be the first victims so I inform my partner that we will be staying put for a few minutes and monitoring the situation. After a short wait two ships jump in through the gate, one jumps back out almost immediately. Another check of the map now reveals a brand new ship and escape pod kill, there is almost certainly a camp on the other side of the gate and the 'ceptor sitting above it is the scout.
We decide that running a camp was not on the menu for the evening so we look for a new system to start our scouting and quickly find a good starting point 5 jumps away. Upon entering this new area of space we find what could end up being a gold mine. 2 low security systems form a path between high security areas. It's also full of belts that could attract miners and pilots looking to fight NPC pirates. We warp around and set up plenty of scanning safe spots and evasion safe spots and before long "opportunities" begin showing up in local and we pick up a lone frigate on the dscan. Being new at this whole opportunist thing it's takes us far too long to scan him down to a reasonable guess as to wear he is. We get a pretty good location narrowed down and I punch up the command that warps the fleet right into the location. The frigate is 30 kilometers away, I tell the computer to head directly at it and spool up the afterburner. The speed picks up and I warm up my guns and ship tackling equipment, a close range warp drive scrambler and an electronic web that slows the target once he's in range. The target spooks before I can get my tackle on him and warps away.

Such is life for a budding opportunist. Two lessons learned, my partner need to carry longer range tackling gear and we should have warped just one of us in, bookmarked an object the target was near and then left and tried to jump back in right on top of him. Even without initiating any involuntary combat we still had a decent night racking up a couple million ISK in loot and NPC pirate bounties and we found what looks to be a good spot to ply our trade. We also improved our scanning abilities and got better at splitting up to narrow down a target location.
All in all though we may have problem... Our corp CEO sanctions attacks on any targets of opportunity but with a current ratio of about 6:1 accountants to combat pilots (new combat pilots at that) we would be in trouble if a target's corporation declared war on us. I've saved up about 40 million ISK to keep me in throw away frigates for quite some time but many of the accountants don't follow rules 1,2 and 3 and stand to suffer pretty serious losses on account of our actions. I and the others of like mind don't care about losing ships or clones but the others surely will. This is going to take a decision in a future and a talk with our CEO.
