Yeah, I've never been a big fan of that effect. I don't like pretending I'm looking through glass when I'm not supposed to be.

I think the idea is that in 3rd person view its meant to simulater a camera, thats why there is no lens flare in 1st person.
I like it, but obviously its down to personal tastes. Definately personal taste which is why there should be a way to toggle it off. IMHO, why simulate a camera when you don't need to?

Definately personal taste which is why there should be a way to toggle it off. Exactly, it should be an option, that way everyone gets what they want!

Agreed. This was the conclusion in the thread at the official forum, although it took a lot longer to reach it there. That's because this is SimHQ and we're generally a more sophisticated lot that get right to the heart of matters.

Moon flare? BUT while on the subject, anyone else find the moon is rendered too large? It is about twice the size it should be. I've got a good screenshot at home I'll post later illustrating this... PS: yes, lens flare should be selectable if possible.

Lens flares really are one of the worst effects ever created for games...in particular for realistic games like this one. There really needs to be an option to remove them.

i agree on the moon. It should be excatly the size of the sun (thats why we get total eclipses). Moon illusion plays a part, but its still too big.
Would like to see that screenshot. Doesn't it depend on tilt of the earth as to how large the moon appears? Ever seen a blood red moon? I remember seeing one as a kid and it looked massive.

Yes, the height of the moon in the sky changes how large the moon *appears* to our eyes. However it certainly never really changes in size. (I mean visual size in the sky, I certainly don't think that you think that it changes size!)
