Hello!

I just installed RS and the game runs fine, but I cannot access the briefing map in the planning screen where you can choose the loadout and the aircraft and stuff normally; this one produces a CTD;
also, is it normal that there are jet fighter sounds in the background?

otherwise, a great experience!!!
if I find some time, I am tempted to do a AAR of one or two of the missions...

thanks in advance for any help

BL

That jet.wav snuck in there. We had a .wav for it, dont know how it got lost. I'll have 05 take a look at that and the missing planning map.

BlackLion,

Can you see the planning map on any other mission? This is for XP or Windows 7?

ok, I have done a little bit more testing...

the briefing map error only creeps up on Hawaii eg Pearl Harbor missions and on both sides, the US and the Japanese;
I am playing the WinXP version of RS on a WinXP Pro SP3 up2date version of Windows XP;

oh what I also noticed: would it be possible to limit the loadouts for the planes to the correct ones for each Nation?
I mean limiting the US to US type ordonance, the IJN to their torps and bombs and so on;
or does all the available ordonance show up on the arming screen and can just be not mounted on the respective planes?

cheers

Found it.

The map in the Oahu folder needs to be named PlanningMap1 instead of Oahu_Map1.

Unless we missed it, and we have missed some things, each weapon belongs to its respective side only.

Rising Sun are story-related combat missions. All the aircraft come pre-loaded based upon what they were carrying on that mission. we use Create Mission for testing only since there is nothing historical about that function. And while you can probably load up whatever you wish, we do not test every possible load since, again, there is nothing historical about hanging on more bombs. It was very tempting to put more than one bomb on the D3A1, and they did carry them, but not in our missions so we pre-loaded what they had aboard.

thank you very much for the quick reply smile

of course for fully historical missions, it makes sense to load them with only the stuff they carried for the original missions;
it´s just me maybe but I find it a little bit annoying to see weapon options that those planes were never intended to carry like RS rockets or FAB bombs or Mk13 torpeckers for the IJN and so on...
but that is just nitpicking from my side I guess smile

[edit] I just tried to rename the map file you quoted to the new name, but this does not help, there is still a CTD.....
is there something in the ini files maybe that I need to edit?

The XP version has weapons in it that are not applicable...leftovers from years of modding. I did not think to clean it up since we only use Japanese, US or UK bombs and torpedoes in the missions. The one that gets me is Paratrooper.

ah don´t mind zerocinco;
I was just nitpicking a little, but as long as the planes have their historical loadouts in the missions, I am a happy camper;
