Gary Grigsby's War in the East: The German-Soviet War 1941-1945 just got released.

Though I´m normally not too much into this kind of big operational wargames, this is one title I was really waiting for since the first announcement was made by the developers.

Off to the motherland! wink

I don´t like these Monster games. It´s a computer boardgame. Pushing hundreds of counters each turn is too boring for me. I prefer the Panther games system, telling the HQ´s what to attack or defend and let the computer do the micromanagement.

Just FYI: NWS has War in the East listed for $64, CD edition. ($90 @ Matrix shop). They aren't in stock yet, so chance the price may go up, but they've had some good deals like this in the past. Says estimated in stock 12/17, so if you don't have to have it before then, worth a look. wink

Looks interesting. Will need to take a closer look before buying at that price though.

I've played WitP for several years now (have the Admiral's Edition now) and have seriously considered pulling the trigger on this one.

I might wait a few months before getting it but I suspect my pocketbook will be taking another dent eventually. I like Gary Grisby's games.

@SimHQ Tom Cofield

How would you compare the new Admirals Edition to the review of the old edition you did here at SimHQ in the review section?

Broke down and got it. Enjoyed the little bits I've tried of it so far.

Scenarios are:
Velikie Luki '42 Tutorial
Road to Minsk (3 turn beginners scenario)
Road to Moscow (17 turn hypothetical, Panzer Group 2 didn't go to Kiev)
Road to Smolensk (10 turn scenario, good for learning major river defense/crossings)
Road to Dnepropetrovsk (17 turn hypothetical, Army Group South without PG2)
Road to Kiev (10 turn scenario, try to take Kiev before PG2 arrives)
Road to Leningrad (17 turns)
Operation Barbarossa (24 turns)
Operation Blue (20 turns)
Operation Typhoon (15 turns)
1941-45 Campaign (224 turns)
1942-45 Campaign (171 turns)
1943-45 Campaign (118 turns)
1944-45 Campaign (67 turns)

I've played the tutorial, and the "Road to Minsk" scenarios. I'll likely do "Road to Smolensk" next. There are two manuals with the game, a tutotal manual for the quick and easy getting started bits, and the full 382 page thing.

@EAF331 MadDog: How do you like the user interface? Does it provide you easy access to all the information in the game? Or is it clunky? I may be getting this one in a few weeks myself.
