Well so the first one wasn't flown by an ace... But I really like the colors on this one. Clean sides, yellow wingtips, yellow numerals and the "Axt von Niederrhein" emblem. That's a nice combination!

Now for the E-4 flown by Harro Harder in August 1940. He obviously didn't fly it on the day he was shot down though because later in the battle it was flown by Erich Schmidt, another JG53 ace. (See, I've already made up for the fact that the first A/C wasn't flown by an ace! :)) A skin depicting the aircraft as flown by Schmidt is already up by the way.

Another ace Emil, an E-4 as well: The one flown by Walter Oesau in 7./JG51:

Finally, an E-7. (It was propably an E-4 but it had the pointed spinner and it looks very good with it) It was flown by Wilhelm Balthasar and many renditions have been made of this aircraft. As far as I know, this is the first time it's depicted with Yellow areas extending behind the enginccowling but in my opinion it's the most logical interpretation of the colors on the nose as it makes no sense what so ever to have the panel in front of the windscreen in RLM02 when the rest of the camo is so dark. Besides, most contemporary JG3 aircraft had similar yellow markings. This is also a "two for one" as aces go - it was inherited by Walter Oesau when he took command of III./JG3

Great minds think alike obviously smile

I'm too looking forward to trying some SOW skinning but that will be very different from IL-2 skinning so I'm not sure how much I'll be able to do...

I would imagine with the higher resolution skins there will be a lot more work involved and any errors will be far more obvoious but whatever happens I can see them being superior to the stock stuff even though that is also looking good from the demo shots. And then there are the vehicles and trains etc which I assume you would also be able to improve? It's going to be a great looking sim!

I've seen it mentioned that SoW may be somewhat limited in what the skinners are able to do with the skins.

Very nice skins Cpt_Farrel. smile

What I've understood is, you can do the paintscheme like in IL2, but not the layers that control the rivet bump-map or the layer for the wear paterns.

i am surprised to see a JG53 109 of August 1940 with an Ace of Spades on its cowling as the order to remove it appeared end of July 40.
