I am making a return to "Falcon 4.0"

Having bought the original in 1998 and then seen other versions available (eFalcon, Falcon 4 SP3, Free Falcon, etc) I originally settled for Falcon 4.0 A/F.
But where are we now?
Is Free Falcon 5.5 an alternative or an add-on, or are there other "Falcon 4.0's" out there?

Gigabyte Ultra Durable 3 GA-EX58-UD4P motherboard, Intel i7 920 2.66Ghz/8Gb RAM chip set (only 3.5Gb available with XP & 32bit system), NVIDIA GeForce GTX275 video card, Realtek ALC850 sound circuitry, OS XP Home SP3, Samsung 21"(4x3)Flat LCD, TM Cougar joystick, TrackIR 3Pro, Logitech G330 Headset, ConnectAccess621 ADSL2/2 Router.
XP Home SP3, Running Falcon 4AF, 1.013 Patch, High Tiles (winter).

Since it's a standalone install, I'd consider it an alternative.

FreeFalcon 5.5
then FF 5.5.3 Patch
then Cockpit Pack.

Other flavors include Open Falcon which does not work well with my system.
Good Luck

Honestly I have tried all the rest but in the end I keep coming back to F4:AF because it is stable and just works. Get the Aeyes widescreen pits (if needed) and HiTiles. Then you are good to go.

Thanks Guys. I think I'll stick with F4:AF because thats's what I've currently got. It looks as though Falcon5.5 and Open Falcon are the other options but maybe "beginners beware". Its just the cockpit graphics that Aeyes has done look stunning. I have no need for widescreen and I already have Hi-Tiles. I'll look for further add-ons to F4:AF.
Thanks again.

Edit: Sorry Guys. duh I just found this. thumbsup

Hi there mate - if you are getting back into Falcon (F4:AF) have you thought about joining an on-line squad for a bit of multiplayer fun?

F4:AF works very well in multiplayer, compared to the other flavours.

Check us out at: http://forum.801sttfw.com/

Our server is based in Sydney and we have a good mix of Aussies and the rest of the world smile

No joining restrictions etc, you can fly as often as you want.

Cheers

P.S. Just noticed that I joined here 12days before you, back in 2006!!

Thanks mate. Yes, it's my intent to fly multiplay, but will need to get up to speed before I move there. I'm currently flying multiplay over at CombatSim with TAW2.0, but need to have another crack at Falcon. Thanks for the redirection to 801st. I'll keep it in mind.

Well if you want to ramp up your training,on-line is really the way to go smile

Our requirements are simply that you have F4:AF installed & patched to 1.0.13 (Latest from LP),an internet connection that will support 128 up and 256 down and teamspoeak 3 with a mike and headset - thats it.

We have no restrictions on joining other squads etc.

So once you get everything up and running, stop by and have a few flights with the guys and see how you go, I am sure you will have a great time.

Cheers

Thanks Rebel. I just need to knock off the rough edges with F4AF before joining. Catch up with the basics again. I have 1.0.13, internet connection, Teamspeak2, mike and headset. But what's this about "support 128 up and 256 down? confused

PS. Just d/l TeamSpeak 3, but yet to configure.

128/256?? (kbps), means you need a broadband internet connection (ADSL/Cable)to connect and fly multiplayer.

I have a dodgy Tel$tra 256/1500 connection which gives me an actual upload of 192kbps and download 1400kbps.

Most broadband connections can do 128/256.

There is plenty of info on our forum that explains how to set everything up, so you should be OK.

Cheers

Thanks. I assume because I fly TAW2.0 in multiplay I'm getting at least 126/256. I'm with iinet ADSL2/Cable. Somebody else setup my connection which is a bit sad as I don't understand even the simplest fundamentals. Your forum will be most educational for me. OK, back to those training sessions ....... but I'll be over soon.

Edit: Just applied to join the 801st ...... thumbsup

Hi - Just signed you up at the 801st, you now have full forum access, so you will be good to go.

We have a lot of members that have been with Falcon since the early days, so you should feel right at home.

Thanks
