I am about 3/4 of the way through my 1/9 scale Aerodrome Pfalz,
has been an enjoyable build sofar, i chose it so as to expose myself
to the joys of planking a fuselage, and also a good oportunity to have
a go at a lozenge scheme. i have a short build thread in progress at
RCGroups.
http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1249560

where it stands at the moment, all mocked up!

Cheers
Craig

Cheers mate, slowly but surely it is coming together, still have to
glass up a spinner, and make the prop, they are about the last real
construction jobs then it is just details and final assembly.

Finally after a month of nothing she is ready to maiden, i vacformed another spinner out of 1mm styrene, definately feels more robust than the .5mm jobbie i tried with at first. painted it up, balanced the prop and fitted it all. ran her up for the first time with the meter on to check the numbers, she is pulling 14A and good for 112W on a 2s2200 pack. with a ready to fly weight of 26.1oz or 740g it works out to a more than ample 68Watts per pound which well and truely eclipses the pups 54Watts per pound. the CG is spot on without any ballast added very happy with the all up weight and the fact that i don't need to add any for balancing. the control surfaces are set up, she taxis dead straight so all being well she will be a good thing, fingers crossed! only real consern is the lack of airflow around the motor, she was at 50deg C after about 2 minutes of full noise running, obviously one airborne she should float along at half throttle or less so shouldn't be an issue i hope. at this stage the weekend is looking the goods wind wise, just have to suck it and see wink

Cheers

maidened the Pfalz the other week, it is a beautiful little flyer.
one of my mates down at the club filmed the maiden for me, and put
together a nice little vid of the flight.

lol nah mate, that was just the circuit we were flying that day, all depends on the wind direction. my maiden flights are usually pretty boring affairs, just get a feel for it , cg and trim wise. start to wring her out after ya know she flys smile

Cheers

Really nice done!

Strikes me as a bit of excellent example on the evolution of mankind as a whole. I mean, about 100 years ago this was cutting edge tech. Now some skilled person with the necessary information (internet!) at hand can build such a flying thing in his shed. We sure have mastered some aspects of physics very well.

Cool plane and a cool video.
I don't know why but when you were taxiing the plane back to yourself at the end of the video it reminded me of a dog running to its master. rofl

Are you thinking about mounting a camera on the plane ?

Thanks mate, it was a very well behaved dog wink
With regard to mounting cameras, I have not done so for a while, but occasionally mount a keychain camera on either my GeeBee Y, and Waco floatplane. Usually I just film them from the ground, well the wife does anyway, she does a pretty good job too I must say!
Here is a vid of my scratch build Rake sopwith pup,

utube channel, rc plane vids

I have about 30 or so vids of some interesting planes, either mine or other club members.

Cheers
Craig

I don't think the Sopwith pup link is going where you want it to go. I am ending up seeing this when I click on it.

No wonder you had problems, I can`t copy and paste with my Ipod touch either. Great job on the RC planes.

Cool videos of the Pup. smile
The one thing I learned in my two flight experience with RC planes is that what seems like a large area to fly shrinks exponentially the second the plane leaves the ground.

Too true, the trees want to reach out and grab you wink that's a part of the reason I love the WWI jobbies, they are all about flying slow and steady, can't wait to start on my Bristol fighter now!

In my second flight I found out that you lose the signal if you fly behind a building. Then a tree eviscerated it. taz
