Finished at last! I bought this last summer, and started it almost immediately, but have only finished it this weekend. It has an Airwaves seat, SAC undercarriage legs, Royale Resin wheels (superb), Hasegawa GBUs, Eduard RBF tags and TwoMikes FOD covers. Ooh, and an Eduard ladder. I've had some issues with the canopy and am awaiting a very gracious replacement from Revell, so here the damaged one is just tacked in place. There are also a few scratchbuilt covers and guards.

EDIT: There's TwoMikes inboard pylons on there too. (If you could get a 1/48 resin kitchen sink, I'm sure I could have shoe-horned it in!)

Thanks for looking!

that is a beautiful model, great work on the weathering, nice and subtle
love the flattening of the tyres to simulate the aircrafts weight, do you
do that with some heat to distort the tyre or do they mould them like that
these days?

Cheers

Hi Craig,
Glad you like the Typhoon. The wheels are add-ons made by Royale Resin (excellent products) and are molded with a bulge.

Awesomely done. All that's missing are the scrape marks of the groundcrews boots on the top surfaces and the brake parachute penant. I thought we had a health and safety culture, looks like the Germans have a love for 'remove before flight' flags too wink Foreplanes could be angled downwards slightly more, but you've captured the 'Phoon well. cheers

For aesthetics or are they locked for maintenance? I've seen them at all sorts of angles in photos, including completely opposed.

Your build isn't wrong, however the UK, Italian and Spanish EF2000/Typhoon foreplanes are normally locked down when parked (ours because we'd never get the access ladder up to the jet otherwise). The German ones may well be locked straight or at a lesser angle. Again, nice job smile

Thanks for the further comments. I'm not sure about the actual time building Gopher. Starting to finishing was around 16 months, off and on, but I finished several other models in that time. A guess, but 50 - 60 hours, because of the ladder and adding the FOD stuff. I'm a very slow builder though.

A bit much soot on the APU exhaust, but other than that awesome.

What lights are you using for the photography? There's a notable yellow tint to them that could maybe be removed with some whitebalance work during shoot or in PS afterwards.

I don't disagree, but they do get very dirty:

Lighting was simply the bulb in the cooker hood that serves as my spray booth and the flourescent tube in my overhead desk lamp, not the most sophisticated set up for taking pics!

Wow, I hadn't seen such a dirty one before. Also what surprises me is that - as you correctly modelled - it's not "running off" gradually trough lighter shades of black, but rather full dirt and then very quickly cleans up as it goes higher. That was what originally surprised me about the model, but your pic clearly shows you're right.

Basically, I was a bit heavy handed with the airbrush, and slightly disappointed with myself. Then I found a pic in my collection that backed it up, so I left it. wink

I've got a load of RAF Typhoon shots at my Picasa Page and it really seems that they at least allow them to get really dirty then clean them up.

Our 'phoons get dirty, the two seaters get a little more dirty as they are heavily utilised and don't get that much down time between flights. They do get a wash, honest. Lets just say that if you were decorating your kids room you wouldn't paint your walls 'Typhoon grey' as it shows up all the marks, leaks and dirt. Come back two tone wrap around camo, all is forgiven!

Whoops, I forgot about this thread. Thanks for the further comments. The HUD is the kit part with a little Tamiya Clear Green thinned and painted on.

Are you based at Coningsby Harry? It's a long way from me but I've been up three or four times to take some shots. I love watching the Typhoons, such a beautiful aircraft, but I miss the Jaguars enormously. Glad I got some shots before they were retired.
