I thought I would start a thread for my pictures. I hope you enjoy them. I am going to start with Glacier Girl. If you don't know the story about her then this will help you understand why she is so unique. Glacier Girl - The Lost Squadron (Recovery of a P-38 from beneath a Greenland ice cap: http://p38assn.org/glacier-girl.htmGlacier Girl @ Wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Glacier_GirlI got some pictures of Glacier Girl in August when she was at planes of Fame getting some maintenance done. I lucked out and saw she was there when I was looking at the Planes of Fame website. I've been to Planes of Fame a few times this year and I am planning on sorting through my pics over the holiday and posting some more. I've got a few pictures of the 109 they are restoring too. As I get things sorted I will upload them to this thread. Hopefully with a description of where and when I took them. **fingers crossed** Wheels

Nice pics wheels, thanks. I believe Glacier Gal is one of the few remaining flyable P-38's in the world. And I remember seeing the TV show on the rescue and subsequent restoration. Quite a few personality clashes IIRC.

Great shots Wheels! One of Kelly's best designs. Love that plane! Great pics wheels!
Rob Thanks guys. I am glad you liked them. I am sorting through what I have looking for some more pics to post. Nice pics wheels, thanks. I believe Glacier Gal is one of the few remaining flyable P-38's in the world. And I remember seeing the TV show on the rescue and subsequent restoration. Quite a few personality clashes IIRC. Its been a long time since I saw the recovery of Glacier Girl documentary. What I do remember is them firing one of the cannons at a 55 gallon drum. There are 7 flyable P-38s in the world and 6 are kept in the US. I never get it right but one is overseas in Austria"? The 6 of them that are based in the US were supposed fly together in Sacramento CA on September 11th and 12th at the California Capital Air Show but only 4 made it. That would have been one more than I had ever seen flying in formation anyway. The most I have seen to date is 3 at the 2009 Chino airshow. http://p38assn.org/newsletters/2010/oct10.htm#showHi, P-38 Fans:Well, the really big show is history, and those of us who made it to the California Capital Air Show will agree that it did, indeed, make history. Read more about that below. But there is no time to rest on our past victories. There's much more to be done to keep alive the memory of our favorite warbird. Welcome to the ride. Blue skies, If you follow the link in the quote there are some pictures of the planes in flight, all 5 of them on the way to the airshow, and pictures of the planes noseart. 23 skidoo had to land in Freso due to engine trouble. I've been lucky enough to see "Glacier Girl" in flight, but never that up-close - thanks Wheels! SHHH, dont tell anyone but there is a possibility that my handprints are on the plane. Lucky dog. No cockpit shots? Drats! Sorry JAMF I couldn't get any closer than that even though they had someone working on her while I was there. I definitely wanted a few cockpit shots. Wheels

Nice pics! I saw the Glacier Girl at Reno in September. Sadly, it didn't fly in the races.
In all my years I've never seen the like. It has to be more than a hundred sea miles and he brings us up on his tail. That's seamanship, Mr. Pullings. My God, that's seamanship!

I've been to Chino twice, and still don't feel like I have seen everything. I would loved to have seen it right after WWII, with the fields covered with hundreds of surplus aircraft.
Living in the Houston area, I have also been to the Lone Star Flight Museum down in Galveston. Well worth the time, if you have a chance.

I've been lucky enough to see "Glacier Girl" in flight, but never that up-close - thanks Wheels! I have had the exact opposite experience.

A couple of pics from inside the B-17 "Picadilly Lilly II" at Planes of Fame. Looking out the plexiglass behind and below the top gunners plexiglass bubble. It wasn't the camera, the plexiglass is that dirty. Looking towards the back of the plane from the radio room. The radio operator's desk is behind me and to the right. (The desk is not in the picture. ) Wheels

Very nice :L You can't imagine standing in there under fire. Damn brave kids.
Probably the 1000th time you have been asked this....what camera is it? Actually you are the first. It is a fairly inexpensive Nikon COOLPIX L22. It's not very good for aerial shots or long distance shots but for up close and personal I think it does fairly well. The videos of the WW1 replica aircraft walk arounds I posted were taken with it too. Wheels Edit: I am going to have to get out the manual because the brochure mentions a zoom feature that may improve my long range shots. I've had the camera for 8 months and I didn't know about it until I read the brocuhure.
Last edited by wheelsup_cavu; 06/05/11 03:15 PM. Reason: I added info about the zoom feature.

I found out how to adjust the zoom so I am going to play around with it and see how well it works. The zoom feature even works with the video. The last camera I had the zoom did not work with the video feature. There is a mini airshow on the 11th at Hemet-Ryan airfield that I was going to pass on but I think I am going to use it to test out the camera now. I like A-10's so that is another reason to go to the show. Schedule - 08:00 Gates Open for General Public

Just beautiful! Can't wait for the P-51, P-47, and P-38 to be released for the Battle of Stalingrad flight sim series.
