I am surprised that these bombsights were indeed that complex in WW1. Very impressive. Thanks for sharing. Whatmodel is it, I'd like to google for the original ?
Michael. I think its this one. High Altitude bombsight Mk. 1A

Mogster, great, thank you ! It's from a Heandly Page 0/400 it says. But it looks different than the aparatus depicted by 777 ? Or is that just a matter of perspective and presentation ? In addition, there are no optics I would recognize as such. The manual is very impressive as well, especially to learn that you Brits used lengths like 2 9/16 inches or 13/16 inches ... must kill you to change to a metric system. Michael When flying at the height from which the bombs are to be dropped, see that the bubbes are in the center of their tubes. Set the height and time pointer (N) opposite the mark on the height scale representing the height from the ground as shown on the altimeter. Now set the cut on the spirit-level bracket (01) opposite the figure on the lag-angle scale (S) which represents the speed of the plane in calm air as determined by the speed indicator. Select a preliminary target or aiming point in the plane determined by the upper (Nl) and lower (IT) sighting wires. Note the time elapsed while the aiming point passes from the line of sight formed by the movable sighting pin(V)and the frontedge of the spirit-level bracket(Cl)to the line of sight formed by the stationary sightingpin. (Ml)and the front edge of the spirit-levelbracket (01). Set the height and time pointer (N) opposite the figure on the time scale (P) whichrepresents the timeelapsed as justnoted. Flyingat the same height with the airplane in such a position that the bubbles arecentered, pick up the true target in the plane determined by the upper (Nl) and lower (II) sighting wires. When the target comes underneath the movable sighting pin (V), release the bomb or bombs. - now, that's straightforward ...

I posted this in the ROF forum.
As of right now the Bombsight is our Default bombsight for all bombers. We do not have time or resources to build different looking bombsights and basing them on exact replica's is impossible due to the way we have to create a bombsight using a GUI and not 3D. Loft assures me that whatever parameters each side's bomber crews had to use is present and work as they should. I personally hope in the future we can have different art for each side, but right now that is not possible. Hopefully in the future.
This is one area in which we had to compromise.
Take it however you want, but at this point all I can say is if you don't like it don't buy it, but we do the best with the resources, time and options we have.

Michael. Yeah - way too complex, I was gonna' say - it looks like Neoqb/777 took some "artistic liberties" with this one. Which is no big deal IMHO - granted with ROF's high fidelity, I expect a near-perfect FM, not a near-perfect Bomb-Dropping-Apparatus. Looks fun! Thanks for the sneak-peak Jason!!

Jason Cool. That doesn't bother me one bit. At least now I only have to memorize how one bomb sight works.

Cute old-fashioned look, beautiful as all RoF. I thought it was clear that this is a generic bomb sight. Would be a bit crazy and over the top to try to shoehorn whichever profusion there was of actual WWI bomb sights into a sim like this. It is a generic bomb sight just like the one in Il-2. BUT, it is much more beautiful! Really exudes the atmosphere of WWI: war in the air with first-generation equipment. The sight has a great steampunk feel to it, so really, kudos to the artist. Would be great to have one looking exactly alike, but with German/French lettering on it. If not, no big deal at all. I cannot even begin to imagine how cool it will be online to have massed bomb raids, people manning all gun stations, defenders flying up to meet the bombers.... WHOA! - Well, actually I am imagining it...

The O400 had a bombsight with features very similar to those that 777 have modelled, that's good enough imo.
As Frey says the on screen gui controls have a nice look that adds a bit of atmosphere.

Yowsa I'm looking forward to bombing stuff with this. So the AI keeps the Handley level while you aim ? Loft from 777 suggested using level autopilot while you mess with the bombsight, so yes. I think its your choice though.
