I'm definitely going to give this a try. I'm not really an MMO gamer but I'll make an exception since it's BSG.

How did this sneak up on us? Sounds pretty cool! Hope it's not a disappointment like that XBLA BSG game was. Will this be cockpit view in flight? They mention moving around the big G, I wonder if there will be land combat, kind of like STO. If it's similar to STO but with cockpit flight, it could be pretty fun.
A little reserved in my excitement due to not hearing anything about it prior to this though, and during beta testing.

It's a lot cheaper that way. You actually think there's enough of a market out there for a full fledge BSG MMO game to be financially successful?

Agreed. A detailed space sim along the same vein as the Freespace games but set in the BSG universe would be quite awesome and I believe a lot of people would buy it. However, I dont think any current publisher would be interested.

The only browser game I ever tried was Runescape and it was pretty lame.

How does the space combat work? Is it like an RTS?

you use your mouse to fly the Viper/Cylon ship there is upgrades all the way up to cap ships. also the physics are what you see in the series. You can also control it by using the keyboard as well.

Footage from CES and some details:

--Coming this month, or Q1 latest
--Free to play
--Browser based
--Will be through SyFy.com (sci fi on SyFy!)
--No player capital ships, but a variety of ships and mods to unlock as you rank up

Combat reminds me of Freelancer. Not the best, but if the missions and ships are fun it could be ok. A little hard to believe that an MMO in development for just a year will have a lot of depth, but who knows. It's free regardless.

Open Beta should be out soon. I have been playing as a toaster since December, not bad. I just wish they had joystick support.

Played it for about two months and gave up. While it has the ships and all, it lacks good control features. As an "MMO" it fails to give that impression of lots of people playing. Concept is not bad but poorly executed. Maybe if it survives for 12 months they might make it better. Time will tell.

Do any of you play on the cylon side? If yes, what exactly can you play as? A centurion? Skinjob? cylon raider?

I got an account setup for both the Colonials and the Cylons. I'm only about a level 3 on both and I started with a Viper MKII for the Colonials and with a Raider for the Cylons. Now I ask: How cool is that?! Guess you have to be hardcore to appreciate it, which I am not BTW.

I have been playing for the Cylons since closed beta. Currently you are playing as a Centurion. It is out of beta now. Still some problems but a free, fun, time waster for me. A few patches ago they added the Cylon War Raider, Viper Mk VII and the ability to rent out a Basestar or the Pegasus for an hour. When you start you have 2 options for your ship. Cylons have the choice between raider(new style) and heavy raider, colonials can pick the Viper Mk II or the Raptor. Once you start to level up a bit and gain money(cubits) and resources you can buy escort ships and finally the larger line ships.

Very cool screens Quickcord. Is the game purely space combat or are there other aspects to it?

Just space combat right now. A few more shot of different Cylon ships.

Banshee escort ship

Hel line ship for a size reference. Can you spot the raider?

System map. You can jump to almost all the systems on the map(some are locked for lower level players).
The red arrow and circle around it indicates my location and my jump range. I was in the Hel at the time so a raider's range is much smaller.

It's not a very deep game but I find it fun to just hop on and shoot stuff. If you are planning on playing the Scorpia server on the east coast you can only choose Cylons I think. The number of Colonial players outnumber the Cylons so they are trying to find a way to make the servers more balanced. If you decide on Cylon and join the Scorpia server shoot me a PM or something and I will help you figure things out. In game name is -Quickcord-.

Thanks Quick. I think I will go cylon since I usually like to pick something that isn't the most typical. smile

Then you should pick "Cylon sympathizer", since all they get to do is protest.
