According to the topic in allaircraftsimulations CK forum, the project will be a standalone commercial game. We are not too lucky with il2 ww1 mods. I love IL2, working fine on my machine, via hyperlobby its one of my most accesible sims, so it would have been great to have a ww1 mod to fly multiplayer. Anyway, is there enough free space on the market beside ROF for another WW1 sim? It has to be different for me to pay for it. (massive multiplayer with online dedicated server running a dynamic campaign in falcon or eech style would be something I would vote for.)

This move surprises me. Yes, donationware, at the most.

I'm pretty shocked by this too, I have been following CK for a long time now and I never would have guessed this was coming. I don't know if I would buy it or not. It had better be a SERIOUS, perfectly done mod. I would have gave them a donation for it, and I had planned on doing so when it came out, but now I will have to wait and see what this becomes.

I'll stick with my Rise of Flight, thanks.
I refuse to buy a flight sim that I have no interest in playing, on the off chance that MAYBE someday they'll make the one I really want to play.

The only way I would drop a dime for this would be if Oleg & 1C got their obligatory cut.. otherwise I won't spend a cent.
Start where you are. Use what you have. Do what you can.

Should've seen this coming... The Il-2 modding community was such a wonderful thing with so many new possibilities suddently opened to so many great modders, all the enthusiasm, and then petty disputes and personnal interests ruined it all. Now this... Flowers bloom before they fade, and so did this game for me.
It'll be RoF or OFF over this, I'm waiting for SOW.
Cheers

one year ago I had a crap computer, I was realy exitet about CK, as the only good choise for a ww1 flight sim. Today things have changed. I have a realy good high end pc, play ROF at everything at max setting with realy good framerate . CK lookt good\ok on the IL2 engine, not so on the new. It looks real dated. For me, ww1 plenes to IL2 was a dream come true. To have one sim, from 1914... - 1950. The possebileties for mission opertuneties was incredible. But now all this is down the drain. When CK was first anonced, it was going to be 2-3 planes for each side, nothing more at first, mabe more aicrafts later. But then... they got to ambitious. This made me sad, because I knew the changes it whould be relesed shrunk as the ambitions grow. Why of why could they not relese one and one aircraft as they completed them? One and one map? Some of the work done was good for a IL2 mod, and whould be a good adision for the game.

Just looked at a bunch of screens on their forum. As an ROF owner I was not impressed with the new engine/models.
Pass.

What we all waited for (well at least me): - Create a map of western front and trenches. Couple of airports bots sides with AAA. Maybe a winter version. Nothing more. - Create some aircraft both sides. Mainly scout ones, 3 should have been enough instead of 40. - package the whole thing as a simple mod. Maybe make it a part of the most succesfull modpack. Is it a huge effort? I really do not know, but all of these I saw on screenshots, even 1 year ago.
After this is ready and published, someone will surely come up with a server, and we all can have our WW1 heaven in hyperlobby, under standard Il2.
Bombers? Later. Buildings, airports and aaa we already have, so targets are ok for them. Zeppelins, baloons? They can come later. Campaign? Why not, but really not the first priority, and if you make the aircafts available, community will take care of it, as we can see it happening on mission4today.
I think accessibility is the key word here. I am not planning to buy another ww1 sim. Its not that easy to build up a working multiplayer community with correct tools around it.
That is why I am a bit sad, seeing CK going into another direction.

Lets get some facts right. - because some bad things between mod groups, CK (mod) died off after AAA went under. - It's not a payware mod of IL2. - Its being developed with an engine like Steal Beasts Pro or like other military/goverment type of simulation engines. Wich will cost around 40USD, from what i've read. - the donation "problem" was an idea of the previous owner of AAA, not Deutschmark. Donations were for the forums not CK, everyone that believed by donating would help CK come into life, are just naive. - Because of a former colaborator of DM, CK (the game) was leaked very early, and as any other game it doesn't look good. But things are already improving, be it GFX or features. - Will it inferior/superior to RoF? Don't know time will tell. - If DM was to sell CK (the game) he will have to aim for quality in any aspect of the game, because there's RoF. On a personal note: As WWI dogfight is not my thing i'll not buy it, as i didn't buy RoF. CK forum page: http://www.allaircraftsimulations.com/forum/viewforum.php?f=112

Just saw the "new and improved" pilot and Dr.I.
Again, not very impressed.

What would definitely work .. WWI with the Multi Play features of IL-2, and the Single Play / Historical aspects of Red Baron II / 3D Shortly after IL-2 Strumovik was released, UBIsoft ran a poll asking which theatre should be done next, and WWI had the highest percentage, 29%, more than North Africa and Pacific Theatre WWII WWI in Il2 engine has been talked about since 2003 at the IL2 Center, at the same time IL-2 1946 was suggested .. Oleg said if he got a set of flawless WWI models, he'd do it Deutchmark publicly claimed to be working on a free IL-2 mod, a project started at the now defunct AllAircraftArcade IL-2 mod site, when for many months now, he has been developing with Quality Simulation's Vehicle Simulator. The name "Canvas Knights" was chosen by the IL-2 mod community, described and promoted as a free community mod of IL-2, and really, Deutchmark has no claim to it. I am the owner of CanvasKnights.com, and am still promoting the WWI in IL-2 effort which continues now Special Air Service website. Another name will be determined for that project as we get closer to having a few planes and maps ready for release .. it's expected these will be incorporated into a future version of Ultrapack after being released as mod package The owner of Vehicle Simulator has asked me to hold the domains for his possible future use, describing the progress there as slow and best described as "a research project" To kinda bring things around though, Oleg would not mind at all having a high quality team build a commercial WWI CFS from the IL-2 engine, as long as he and 1C do not have to spend any time with it. There were considerable informal negotiations with Oleg and Maddox Games to the point of fleshing out a design doc in 2009, however it was hoped CK would have produced a 8-10 plane mod release by Summer 2009 to show the popularity, and with Deutchmark supposedly working on the IL-2 mod, it was difficult to assemble a second team of IL-2 modders, thinking it duplication of effort .. A commercial WWI in IL-2 engine would act as a stop gap and idea tester for a WWI CFS using Storm of War engine. IMO, to do that right in SoW might take 3-4 years, and be timed for release at the 100th anniversary of WWI ... also, a team that could show their skills in a difficult to work with IL-2 and impress Oleg, would have priority consideration for working with Storm of War If people want to see a WWI mod for IL-2, get over to SAS and encourage the effort that consists of many well known IL-2 modders from several mod groups .. there are really no personal issues between these people, but we'll see how it goes

Looks promising. Donationware would probably be the best course of action.
