According to the topic in allaircraftsimulations CK forum, the project will be a standalone commercial game.
We are not too lucky with il2 ww1 mods.
I love IL2, working fine on my machine, via hyperlobby its one of my most accesible sims, so it would have been great to have a ww1 mod to fly multiplayer.
Anyway, is there enough free space on the market beside ROF for another WW1 sim?
It has to be different for me to pay for it. (massive multiplayer with online dedicated server running a dynamic campaign in falcon or eech style would be something I would vote for.)

Weirdness.

I haven't yet seen a whole lot from them, and going up against RoF will be very hard. They might have had a point making it donationware or even a payware mod (like OFF3) but standalone engine or licensed engine based on IL-2? Not gonna happen...

With all respect to vonDeutsmark, but lets take a close look of the planes he made, to me it appears he did only made some resolution upgrade on old Redbaron birds, all this was state of the art in 2002, but we are spoiled to something like we see now a days in RoF and OFF. I think only time will tell us, if players want to pay for that and who knows CK will be improved to a OFF and RoF level, in which I do hope.

This move surprises me. Yes, donationware, at the most.

I'm pretty shocked by this too, I have been following CK for a long time now and I never would have guessed this was coming.
I don't know if I would buy it or not. It had better be a SERIOUS, perfectly done mod.
I would have gave them a donation for it, and I had planned on doing so when it came out, but now I will have to wait and see what this becomes.

The only way I would drop a dime for this would be if Oleg & 1C got their obligatory cut.. otherwise I won't spend a cent.

Weird eh? Full Leather Jacket, that ill-fate FS:SDOE spin-off commercial project, OFF3 and CK all go commercial.

What is it with WWI? WWI fliers have traditionally been more laid back (less so now with the online crowd) and often French (S! first spread from the WWI community). But none of this explains why the modders go commercial. One simple reason might be the limited number of modern (post 1998) WWI sims. This encourages big modding projects and also creates a market.

However, the same thing could be said for Helo sims (which have only spawned EECH2)

Should've seen this coming... The Il-2 modding community was such a wonderful thing with so many new possibilities suddently opened to so many great modders, all the enthusiasm, and then petty disputes and personnal interests ruined it all. Now this... Flowers bloom before they fade, and so did this game for me.

It'll be RoF or OFF over this, I'm waiting for SOW.

Cheers

Nico
