Pft! That video was a waste. It's raining cats and dogs in a torrential downpour and the U.S. flag is in full extension. To make it worse it's not even flapping. It's just standing there at full attention....while it should be straight down from the weight of the rain water.
Seriously? Stunning!!
One thing to consider when comparing this to SoW is this is for a commercial flight simulator and not a combat flight sim. I imagine the extra CPU cycles needed for AI, DM, et al would prevent this level of detail in Oleg's creation..... at least now.
Down low I have no issues with SoW. That Hurricane over the coastline in last weeks update really looks less than what I'd expect. Given that these examples were from earlier builds of the game, I'm not too stressed about it, but my one fear is that cities would be ashen smudge marks on the terrain. RoF might not be 100 realistic, but I'd rather have an inaccurate city than a god awful 2001 surface smudge. As it is now I don't even really see a city on Oleg's screen shot.... just a grayish area with the hint of roads if you enlarge the image to see the detail..
The tree's level of detail needs to be increased too. It's very sporadic. Conversely, to me it makes no sense to have well developed trees (where they are in the shot at least) in such high altitude shots and not have the same detail in cityscapes.
Still it was an early build.

Don't get me wrong. As mentioned, I'm very happy with the low altitude shots. The detail is amazing. The lighting effects displayed add a sense of realism I've not seen before in a flight sim. It's the higher altitude shots that give me pause. I'll personally be disappointing should the medium high altitude shots (like the Hurricane over the channel's coast) end up with gray splotches to represent a city. It's so 2001. I also understand there are trade offs when designing a flight simulator. Not everyone's going to be satisfied with every aspect and in many ways Oleg is damned if he does, damned if he doesn't. I'll still buy the game, hands down. No worries about my $ being forked over. EDIT: Truth be told, that shot is the only one released that has ever really disappointed me. All things considered at this juncture 1C has met my expectations for a fun filled CFS.

I like the Orbyx vids on YT, it shows what can be done, despite the limitations that the FSX engine has in it's lighting dept. Texture baking can have some extraordinary results. I wonder if who ever took the shot of the town deliberately switched off some of the shadows to highlight the geometry? It just looks a bit...Ahem...Odd without them. The more I think of it (Not that my opinion means anything), I keep coming back to the thought that these shots are a big fat red herring. I keep seeing subtle details, which allude to something that may well give us users a proper sense of shock and awe. (The YT spit video for example) Am I right in thinking that the vast majority have been old build/ out to sea? But on a purely selfish note...I'm really looking forward to trying out the modeling tools, when they get released. Wave FSX goodbye Anyone got any detailed C.152 drawings?

Yes, I own it! Living in the PNW, Orbx's rendition of the area was a must have for me. It's a delight to fly around and well worth the investment. That said, I still see much opportunity in the different approach to scenery available to Oleg and co., who are free of the confines of FSX. I look at the moving cloud shot in that video and imagine if FSX cloud were dynamic rather than 2D... proper volumetric rolling cloud following atmospheric law, with dynamic lighting, as has been hinted at in SoW previews (although I would still like to see a LOT more weather in some of these updates!)

AWL_Spinner, I'll have to make a point of buying a copy in that case I think if I had to choose a place in the world to live, it'd be in the PNW also. I really like Vancouver, been there a couple of times now. I just love Lynn valley. Yeah I agree..There's been a distinct lack of weather! Hackl, Cool vid. I'm pretty sure I recognize some of those landmarks(Sure looks like the M11 motorway in a couple of segments). Was there ever any talk of textures relating to seasons changing? Biggs

Sorry to be going on and on here but in this sim 109s do wing an awefull lot on take off but I don't really notice the lack of control on landing or do other fighters have lots of control after landing? One thing I really like about it is it's heavy tail if I ever fly a Spitfire..once a year...I'm always nosing over. You reall have to blast the power and brake to make sharp turns as this real life pilot does on time 7.22 8:11 the whole darn disc is good. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IpLpcjN1Xgk

Interesting video posted by Hackl.... This was filmed at Duxford; don't know the year but obviously Aust early Sept. in one of the few hot & dry summers we have here! The surrounding East Anglia flat country is mainly large cereal crop agriculture. The rolling countryside of Kent and Hampshire in 1940 would have been mainly cattle, friut or hops. My mother and her mother used to go hop-picking down there, and old London tradition in those days....but they didn't go in 1940; wonder why? So it would appear from the air much more verdant and arborial, especially as there was not much fine weather until late August.
