Thanks for the info guys. Truth be told I'm asking because I'm in the market for an airsoft version of these rifles and I'm looking for realism.
So far I'm considering the G36 officially licensed by Umarex....we'll see.

UMAREX!? The same guys who use an aluminum tube surrounding a steel liner for the barrel on the HK416 clone in .22LR!? Oh...my... For airsoft, you'd be better off with the P90. It's a lot less bulky than the others...and, let's face it, it's not as if the little plastic bbs are going to go any slower out of airsoft P90 than the other models.

Well, I'm new to airsoft so you tell me!
What other tips can you give me? All the Umarex reviews look good --although I think there are two versions of the officially licensed one...a blowback one (Elite) and a non-blowback one...

I tried airsoft a while ago, but didn't like it as much as paintball. The blowback models have reciprocating bolts that will not only drain your battery faster, but throw off your aim. It's your decision whether or not the cosmetic difference really outweighs the negatives.
I don't know a lot about Umarex's airsoft stuff. I do know that I wouldn't touch their real firearms with a 10 foot pole.
Just choose something that you're comfortable with that is also easy to point and not too heavy. Don't worry too much about accuracy because you're going to be throwing so many bb's at your target that it won't matter. Oh, and get something cheap. You won't feel so bad when it gets scraped from brushing against obstacles, walls, or corners.

I've played airsoft twice before, and was bit by it. I like it better than paintball though I've never played paintball but it just seems more realistic to me. I played using an AK-47 that was all metal and plastic where the wood stock would be and it was fairly heavy like the real thing, it was alot of fun. My brother uses the SCAR-L and it is all metal and weighs like the real thing. So I crave the real feel/weight. Good point about not feeling bad if it gets scuffed up--though if the gun was all metal it woudn't be so bad. but then it would be pretty expensive anyway. I'm looking at either: http://www.pyramydair.com/s/m/H_and_K_G36C_Black_Dual_Power_Rifle/2110Or the blowback version which is about $240 though. I'm leaning more toward the $95 one though since I'm not sure I want to be completely serious with this hobby yet and this one won't break my bank. But my bro's was $150 for an all-metal SCAR-L so I dunno, I'm split. v6, boNes

If your finances allow for another purchase down the road, get the cheaper one if you are hooked on the sport. Paintballs offer more pain when hit, so suppressive fire works much better. Oh, the guns are much louder as well.

Shan2,
Haha yeah! When we were playing it was in a paintball field and there were ongoing games going on. You could hear those guns firing and at one point I had to take cover because the paintball game spilled out of bounds and into the trail I was leaving my airsoft game from.
I imagine those paintballs hurt too...but I did get riddled by friendly fire in airsoft at 15 ft and those stung enough.
The thing about paintball beside how messy and smelly they are is that those guns look so unrealistic with those hoppers on them. Kills the mood. In fact, they only do airsoft one day out of the month at this field, and when we were there, the paintballers were all in awe with their jaws on the floor seeing us with our kick butt-looking weapons and gear.

Hehehe. Can't beat gun envy.
When we played, nobody had very large ammo hoppers. Well...except for those guys who were on crew served weapons powered by air compressors. The worst things on the field were these paint mortars that people loaded with grenades. Talk about a dumb way to get a concussion...

Hehehe.
Who were the zombies?
I have been the fox in a fox hunt game. It was for a good cause...but it absolutely sucked.
