This was a great review Joe.

I bought the wired version of this. My reason was because I use the usb-powered track-clip for the TrackIR - what's another cord? Especially when you braid them together anyway.

Maybe there is a difference between the wired and non-wired, but in the wired version I have to say that the audio is fantastic. I also used the boom over skype and people thought I was very clear. I can also say these things are comfortable. Really, really great ear cups. I had that AudioFX one by E-dimensional and while after a while the AudioFX finally got broken in and comfortable, my Logitech headset felt perfect right out of the box. Does that mean they will even get more comfortable? I'm not sure - but if nothing changes it won't matter because I'm very happy right now.

But the absolute best thing of these units (either one) are the controls on the cup as opposed to inline. No dongle thumping you in the chest. No fishing around to find it. I've already built up muscle memory to find the volume. Do wish it had a speaker-mute button in addition to the mic mute - but fine. And, the controls are on the right - so you don't have to use your stick hand (or mouse hand I guess).

I'm really, really happy with my wired set. They made a great product with this one.

Does it come with a Gnome voice change option? My wife would like that. Ideally it should change the voices of everyone on Teamspeak to reduce their credibility. Although this is not a problem on XBOX live since nearly everyone sounds like they are 10 years old (how does it do that anyway?)

I bought a pair of Creative Labs "Fatality" headphones, soft-comfort ear pads, detachable mic boom and really cheap compared to others. Sound quality is good too, but no "Gnome" option.

Nicely done review Joe. I have a set of 5.1 Logitech speakers and a plug in Altec Lansing headset, and am quite satisfied with both.

Question though: Can the program keys be set to "key voice activation" and voice activation of the mike?

I think that for voice communication the G930 is more than adequate. My comments over the audio quality pertain to higher fidelity listening, such as when listening to music.

Heh, no "gnome" option. What does a gnome sound like, anyway? Would it be like "David the Gnome", the animated series on TV in the 80s? Or would it be like the Travelocity Gnome (vaguely weird and British)?

For Ventrilo, yes; these commands are available for selection in the G930 Settings software application for Ventrilo 3.0.5.

However, there is no option to set push-to-talk for Teamspeak or any other VOIP software, and since in-game game-specific push-to-talk would need to be assigned to a joystick button or keyboard key in-game, there is no option to do this, either. Examples like this are why I feel the software is very limiting.

Those dirty sneaks at Logitech slipped a new Wireless headset under the radar:

The G930 sticker-shock is made a little bit smaller with a $119 price :

I cam here to provide the same comment. This looks like a fantastic headset but there is nowhere to plug in USB-powered TrackIR accessories. If the batteries are strong, there's no reason why it could not. IR LEDs do not need that much juice and should not significantly impact run time.

Other than that, it is nice to see quality wireless gaming headsets coming out. I HATE all of the wires I have to deal with in my cockpit. The fewer, the better!

Great review!!
