I've been anticipating Caprica's return since the first half of the season ended in April but thanks for the heads-up anyway Harry. I'm not happy with the move from Fridays to Tuesdays but oh well, I'll still be watching it of course.

Wrestling on Friday is absolutely horrible, saw that last week. Sci Fi Fridays is almost tradition around here, even if it means a movie or game. Not the best night for ratings though, I can understand that. Will be sticking to movies or games I guess.

So what did you guys think of last night's episode? I thought it was interesting how they gave the monotheist leaders on Gemenon a somewhat Catholic appearance and who reside in a Medieval era stone castle.

Were there any cylons trying to exterminate humanity or was it all still a bunch of character drama?

IMHO, it appears that Clarice Willow will be the spearhead for the cylon rebellion against humanity which the STO calls "apotheosis" but that will not happen for some time. Yes, this episode was mostly character drama but it also moved the main story forward.

LOL Colt, nothing has been released yet about last night's ratings. Give it 3 or 4 more episodes before we will have a decent idea if the show will be renewed or not. The fact that it moved to Tuesdays and has SG:U as a lead-in will most likely help it.

@ Colt - IMHO, I dont think Caprica will have any problem getting the ratings it got from the mid-season finale and sustaining that level. The move to Tuesday night was a smart one.

I dont envy Ron Moore's position because it is an extremely difficult one in my opinion. He wanted to make a spinoff prequel show that obviously took place in the same BSG universe and had ties to it but he also didn't want to do the exact same thing again from a sytlistic and narrative perspective. I mean, what would the point be in making another show if it's going to be just more of the same? From a creative perspective that makes sense but who knows? Maybe more of the same is what most of the tv audiences want?

Well, according to what I've read online, SyFy wont be making a decision until the end of the month so that means that Caprica has 3 more episodes to put out there to see if the ratings improve.

Barring some full frontal nudity or some hot cylon on human genocide action I'm not holding out much hope for a big ratings boost for Caprica.

So what did you guys and gals think of last night's episode? I liked it quite a lot and some stuff was explained that was a bit of a mystery in the previous episode.

The Ratings system is the problem, not the shows.

Stargate Universe is Suffering too, then again MGM is about to file for Bankruptcy.. so wave goodbye to anything stargate.

Just recently the networks have started to include DVR viewings into the general tv ratings but the problem there is that since commercials can and are skipped on DVR recordings, the number of people who watch a show on DVR doesn't really mean anything from a financial perspective.

My House used to have 3 TV's watching SG1/Atlantis. its was insane, my brother and I would watch on SciFi HD in my room, while the parentals would watch on the TV in the Den and kitchen.

Its Just Funny how EVERY THING ON TV has has ratings Drops correlating with DVR Deployment from Cable companies.

Read the Wiki on Nielson, theres so many flaws in the system its not even funny, or functionally practical to be used as a determining factor on a show's survival.

Nielson's Numbers have killed alot of shows that had huge fanbases.

You are absolutely right. The Nielsen system is really out of date with the current day reality. Hopefully the networks will be willing to make the appropriate changes to make sure that shows that DO have an audience stay on the air.

I'm sorry PM, but this show is boring with a capital oring. I think the only reason I even bother to watch it is so you can't say I don't know what I'm talking about when I say it sucks. we're 11 eps in and there is not a cylon war in sight, it's all just about the STO, Greystone's corp and the mob. It's barely sci-fi at all.

I'm the kind of person though that likes to watch stuff like CSPAN and old foreign films in black and white that mostly consist of people sitting around and talking so I guess by comparison Caprica is action packed.

Hey I like old movies too(you're alone on C-SPAN), but it just feels like Caprica doesn't have a clue where it is headed. There are so many plots going on that could go anywhere or nowhere. And none of the plots so far seem to be leading to the first cylon war. I was expecting the show to kick in when the cylons were already an integral part of society right before the rebellion. At the rate this show is going they will need 10 seasons to get that far.

I'm a big fan of the show but I admit that it took a bit too long to get going. Some of the stuff in the first half of the season got too much time devoted to it like Willy Adama getting drawn into the Tauron mob. The catch 22 now with this show is that it is a complex show that requires patience from the audience but if they dont improve the ratings quickly then it's a goner anyway.

It's starting to feel a little "Twin Peaks" to me, and not in a good way. I still like it but it seems to be chasing it's tail a lot of the time. I also don't mind a leisurely pace in what I watch, but I need to feel I'm getting somewhere. The STO plotline is not that interesting to me (maybe those actors just aren't clicking for me), I prefer the Daniel Graystone/Adama/Vergis stuff.

thats why they dont make back story series. they tend to be spread out over a large timeline, and re-curring characters would be impossible if the series is covering 100Years/Season..

which is why MGM declined My Stargate Origins Proposal ( Covered the Design of the Stargate -> The Movie, I had Season Breakdowns and Episode names through the First 4 or 5 seasons, and Season Plot Arcs through Season 10), If your interested in that I'll Post what I have from My .doc, i think MGM still has my Proposal.

Hehe! I know exactly what you mean. I'm also a big fan of "Twin Peaks" but it definitely lost a lot of direction after Laura Palmer's killer was revealed.

I think part of the problem with the STO storyarc is that we all know that somehow the cylons ultimately adopt the monotheistic religion of the STO but right now it's still a mystery of how or why that happened.

In the larger scheme of things, I think a lot of BSG fans have bailed on Caprica because they just didn't find it as compelling and interesting as BSG and while I like Caprica myself I can definitely see their reasoning.

I turned it the last 10mins couldn't stand it.

Im rewatching BSG on netflix since they have it on streaming now. Really differnet to watch when you know who the bad people are.

Part of what's great about BSG is that the term "bad people" is a highly subjective one and the characters were all written so well that you could at least understand why the "bad" people did what they did. I'd say the the two characters that got the closest to being flat out evil were Cavil and Tom Zarek.

Once you knot the plot its not the same to watch, i know when it was an active show people watched because every week they hinted at who the final five were, and people just kept watching because of the suspense.

Caprica hasnt done anything for me and i stopped watching after 30 of so minutes......

Stargate Universe is more "Star Trek Voyager Meets Battle Star Galactica" IMHO, and I can back that up in so many ways, so if you liked both of those shows then SG:U is for you.

"V" Comes back soon, but I watch it mainly for the Queen and her daughter... and the soccer mom turned resistance, she's hot too.
I liked the original V Miniseries/movies,
and The Remake as actors from Stargate SG1 in it, so I watched, and I liked.

First Wave was also an awesome show that got cancelled way before its time to go because of slipping ratings., least the writers had time to re-write and re-shoot the final episode.

Apparently a lot of Stargate fans have bailed on SG: Universe because SGU is getting about half the viewers that Atlantis was getting. This was happening even before the move to Tuesdays. I guess a lot of SG fans didn't care for the more dark direction/mood that SGU has taken.

I still watch Universe religiously i dont dvr it unless im going to be gone. I enjoy it very much, as well as all the SG series.

Actually a lot of fans bailed because they believed Atlantis was cancelled to make room for SG:U, which is not the case. And even more fans are mad because the next SG1 Movie and Atlantis Movie Direct to DVD's are obviously cancelled because they auctioned off the entire Atlantis Gateroom.

I find SG:U awesome because I was always into the Ancient storyline arcs in SG1 and of course Atlantis. was all about the Ancients Pretty much.

Some of the SGU Story was setup by a group of fans that have been writing Stargate Arcs for a while, So we know where alot of this is going.

The one thing they goofed up on, we had the Ships being Launched from Celestus in the Ori Galaxy, stopping in the Asguard Galaxy, then Milky way, then Pegasus, then outward.

Those fans that bailed because of that reason obviously aren't aware of the standard SyFy business practice of not keeping a show around for more than 5 seasons regardless of how its doing in the ratings.

Which is why SG1 was finally cancelled, and people argue it was in 10 Seasons, but they dont realize the first 5 seasons were on Showtime, and was cancelled and picked up by SciFi, restructured with a new "Story" direction, SG1 moved from the "Lets find Share' and Skaara/Milky Way/Apophis" storyline to The "Asguard/Ancient" Story Line that led to the "Anubis" Storyline, that Led to the "Baal/Aunibis/Ascended/Replicator" storyline, that led to the "Ori" Storyline and the Atlantis Series, that Led to the Universe Series.

What Alot of us viewers in that group are still scratching our heads about, is, since the only place that listed the 9 chevron address was Atlantis' database, where is the Lucian Alliance coming up with the legend regarding the 9th chevron unlocks space/time and powers of the gods from.

I am on my 4th go through of the SG1 series. I just enjoy watching them over and over.

I couldn't get into SG1. I can't really put my finger on why, but there was just something about it that rubbed me the wrong way from day 1. Atlantis was pretty good until the craptastic lack of an ending.

Not at all, there was very little crossover between the two imo and they told you anything you needed to know.

Yeah, Im just saying to understand how the Ancients Operate, one would need the backstory on them, theres one episode in particular "Threads" Season 8, Ep, 18. I think give the most backstory into Ancients and acsension and crap.

If you dont want the SG1 boring Episodes. I'd pick up around Season 5, where the Story Arc leads us to Ascension the Return of Anubis, and up to the ori and Such. theres alot in seasons 5,6,7,8 about Ancients and Atlantis, and the back story.

Was thinking the things I appreciate about Caprica is its trying to be different from other Sci-fi shows we'v had in the past. And it trys to do good writing. SG-U is just copping other show ideas into one.

I've never had a doubt since I first watched the pilot that Caprica was going to be a unique show and while it takes place in the BSG universe it was still going to be distinct from its predecessor. Unfortunately it seems to be a unique show that only a few people want to watch.

Yeah dont get me wrong, I dont like how there are doing the over all story arc but they are trying. The mob vers religulous wackos just dont do it for me.

The one fatal flaw of Caprica I think was that they took too long to get the main storyarc (creation and rebellion of the cylons) going. I say "fatal" because it's highly doubtful the show will be renewed for a second season.

Wow, I honestly thought that was a great episode tonight. So it turns out that Avatar Zoe has a Head Zoe. Fascinating! I'm most curious to see how this fits into the overall BSG mythology.

I find Caprica depressing, everyone in it is miserable. The idea of everyone getting nuked in 50 years is a comfort.

These people should sit down have a cup of tea and a biscuit. BBCs Eastenders is light entertainment in comparison.

Those people have space travel, cool gizmos, fabulous scenery and manically depressed homicidal robots. Kafka would enjoy this show, and hate himself for doing so. Just don't see any joy in it.

SGU has some nice screenery and Robert Carlisle, well there's another miserable sod. SGU is pretty miserable too. Everything needs to be dark and intense, personally I blame the X-Files ten years before.

(Ely really IS big boned, there's no way he could be on a starvation diet for nine months and still look that healthy.)

What I find funny about SG:U is how it seems the last couple minutes of every episode consists of music with sombre vocals playing while you see scenes of different crew members around the ship just acting depressed and quiet.

I really liked this weeks SGU, caprica was ok then the chick fight happened and i was back in it.

Well, I've already resigned myself to Caprica not being renewed. At least there is still 7 episodes left to watch. SyFy will still air them even if the show wont be back for a second season.

This latest episode felt the most BSG-like. Very similar structure.

I think the biggest problem with CAPRICA is that Zoe is played by the wrong actor. Just like BIONIC WOMAN, they should have flipped the two badass female roles.

Yeah, I have to agree. The fundamental problem is not that Alessandra Torresani is a bad actress and in fact I think she's pretty good but instead that she is not good enough to have such a major role on the show. And she was completely unbelievable as a bad ass gladiatorial-style fighter!

Compare this to the BSG miniseries where it was apparent from the beginning that Katee Sackhoff was something special.

I think one major weakness is that we don't have anyone to root for. In the mini it seemed like Joseph or Daniel might be flawed and make mistakes, but were essentially "good" so a rallying point for the viewer. Now they both seem to be going down irretrievably dark paths, no one left to root for. BSG by contrast, though dark, had many essentially good characters.

CAPRICA does have that fundamental problem of everyone being a potential villain. However, I do think that Amanda Graystone is becoming the character I want to see succeed the most. Granted, I LOVE Paula Malcomson... so, any scene she is in (outside of the ridiculous confession scene where she outs her daughter as a terrorist), I love.

She has been great in Sons of Anarchy as well.

Interesting that the young Bill Adama appears to have been written out of Caprica entirely. I thought Sam Adama was a character with potential for development too, but he seems to have been relegated to a bit player.

Still, I did enjoy this week's episode. Although I was somewhat disappointed to observe that the question that has perplexed mankind since the dawn of philosophy - what is consciousness, and what it is to be alive - was casually solved one afternoon by Zoe, playing around on her dad's computer.

I'm not so sure about Sam Adama being relegated to a bit player. It looks like he will play a big role on next week's episode.

However, I really do think that Willy Adama has been either written out of the show or we wont see him again for a long time. Notice how the last time we saw Willy was at the Tauron ceremony to officially say good-bye to his mother and sister. Maybe the producers and writers just couldn't think of what to do with him after that.

Here we go.

Another outstanding episode tonight and I think this has been the best one of the second half so far.

- Now we're getting to see how the cylon centurions originally got involved in fighting wars for the Colonials.

- So Daniel is now working on creating an avatar of his wife. For what purpose if she is not dead?

- Wow, we got to see Willy Adama again after a long absence even if he didn't do anything and had one line of dialogue.

- The absence of Lacy, Zoe and Tamara gave this episode a decidedly adult feel to it.

- Eric Stoltz has impressed me yet again with his command of his role on Caprica.

- Some serious Centurion ass kicking and the iconic line "by your command" which we haven't heard since the pilot episode.

Daniels wife is on The Event now too, thats 3 shows she is playing on simultaneously

Amanda Greystone has definitely become a more interesting character since the mid-season cliffhanger IMHO.

Now THAT was a great episode. The ending montage of birth, sex, etc reminded me a little of the intro of Kobol's Last Gleaming 1, nice.

All I will say though is that things are really starting to heat up now and the connections between Caprica and BSG are becoming more visible.

I wonder if Caprica has been on hiatus/canceled for a while now. The actress who plays Amanda Graystone was on The Event the other night playing a wild eyed paranoid reporter trying to uncover the mystery. It was a small part and may be her only time on the show, but still.

Would an actor moonlight on another series if the actor's current show was still on air? I think the writing for Caprica (as far as continuing the series) was on the wall last April.

They were done filming ages ago. No reason for any of the actors not to work.

Yup. They produced all 20 episodes in one straight run and the final episode was most likely completed early this year.

Didn't realize it was that long ago. I figured maybe a couple of months or so.

The dvd release of the pilot episode was April 2009 and they started shooting season 1 not long after that.

Just got round to watching this weeks' episode, very good. Typical, just as the pace starts to pick up SyFy can it, and make us wait months for the last bit of the season.

Sigh.

The last 2 episodes "Blowback" and "The Dirt Eaters", really good. Esp the latter, seeing backstory of Joe "Yusif" and Sam, and Graystone being a really cagey SOB, loved it.

Well, finally at the end. Watched the finale, "Apotheosis". Wow, what a way to end it! Nice series wrap up.

I saw Zoe on Sarah Conner Chronicles which i am rewatching now.

I didn't think I would still be like this by this time but I'm still really bummed about the cancellation.

I'm pretty bummed also. The last few episodes really rocked.

I'm getting the DVDs for Christmas so I'm waiting until then to watch the final 5 episodes. It always seems to happen that a good show gets cancelled just as it's starting to fire on all cylinders. Sigh.

Too bad we live in such a short-attention-span society, shows that unfold too slowly usually just don't make it. SyFy also really screwed things up with their bizarre release schedule.

The thing about the finale is that it really does feel like a wrap up, even though it was written and filmed way before the series was cancelled. The 2nd season may have been a "great leap forward" like "Lay Down Your Burdens 2".

Not going to wait for the blu-ray? Hasn't been announced yet but imagine would be out next year.

I highly doubt a bluray version will be made for Caprica. The show wasn't financially successful and I've heard that the sales for the 1.0 set were pretty low. Heck, we dont even have bluray editions yet for TNG, DS9 or Voyager and those shows all lasted 7 seasons each.

It was filmed in high-def, a lot of those older shows aren't, so it would be a lot easier to BR Caprica. The effects in a lot of TNG look pretty bad, obviously low res and digital, would have to be redone from scratch to not look bad in BR, probably cost prohibitive.

That's a good point. Ah well, if there is a bluray release some time in the future I'll just rent them from Netflix.

Just watched the last two episodes today, very good, and wrapped up well enough for this to stand as a one-season closed narrative.

I really liked the Tauron stuff, next time I watch BSG I shall pay more attention to those references.
