I disagree with the notion that it was some brilliant twist. It was a good explanation for why things seemed so different as well as the age disparity (because EJO wasn't THAT old), but I don't think I'd even classify it as a twist.
A twist would've been that Daniel was a sleeper skinjob unaware of his identity but working to create Cylons.

Definition of twist - making the audience believe that one set of circumstances is true until at some later point a dramatic reveal is made which negates what the audience believed to be true. This was certainly the case with Willy.

The reason I felt the twist was brilliant was mostly because of how the scene with Joseph Adama praying was blocked by the director. He's on his knees praying to the gods and then suddenly he shifts and turns to the side to reveal Bill Adama and of course he was immediately recognizable with the blue contacts.

LOL! "the twit was brilliant"!!
