Ah! One of my frustrations with this rifle has been discovered. And it wasn't really problem with a rifle itself but how scope/bore work together.

So at 25 yards, I would shoot exactly where I aim. Good.
At 100 yards, I would move sight (one click up) and expect to hit at least near my aim. But no. Bullets where no where to be found. I would move scope range to original 25 yards and same thing. It's like I'm shooting blanks. Finally today I used large enough paper and figured it out. Round were landing 12 inches high! Therefore when using regular 8x12 paper, rounds were always off.

So I tinkered with scope and now I can provide group of 1.5 inches at 100 yards. At 200 yards, rounds would drop 10 inches. Also, I used range finder so now all distances are known.

Tomorrow, I'll go and do more testing. And this time I'll bring camera.

so 'tomorrow' finally arrived. Unfortunately, no good results as I had to rezero rifle. I managed to provide grouping into body sized target at 200 meters in this overgrown-ak. Bah.

Glad you got your accuracy issues solved, Sim. Looks like OG was right again. My guess was certainly wrong.

Thanks shan. It is the line of work I did for a while.

It's far from solved. This thing is an insult to rifles in my eyes. My old M91/30 had better grouping....

What ammo have you tried? Small Arms Review did a write up a while ago on the Dragunov. They'd gotten their hands on one from Iraq. The writer got about 1.5 to 2 inch groups at 100 yards using decent ammo.

Polish up the trigger, doing so w informed instructions for your rifle's trigger mech. Be careful with this and only follow trustworthy advice.

Try using a sandbag instead of the bipod pictured: it may be having some harmonics issues.

Experiment w different brands of ammo. If you handload, try different bullets and seating depths.

Try using the iron sights instead of the optics, to see if perhaps the optics mount is looser than the rifle. Use a precise and easily viewed target for, this, say at 100m.

Use fresh paper for each precise group.

Check to see you havent developed a flinch: unloaded, in prone position, no sandbags, get friend to put a dime on the barrel, and "shoot" as if at the range with live ammo. The dime should not fall off, if you hold steady. Do this a good 20 times at least.

Use a file and shave a very slight amount of metal off the gas tube assembly. It may be interfearing with barrel harmonics.

Remove the muzzle's flash hider. It may be interfearing with the harmonics.

Try wearing a thick winter jacket: it can some absorb recoil, but also change the length of pull from the stock.

It's a fake cheap-mans Dragunov. It's not a real thing...far from it and so results are far from desired.

That's a lot of mods that I don't know how to perform. I use cheap surplus ammo, so that probably adds to randomness...and frankly I'm not going to buy premium or reload for this. This thread will just serve as public announcement to tell folks that Romanian guns are cheap for a reason. I've seen prices as low as 500$ for this glorified AK. Yugoslavian version will for 2+K. Chinese even more. An arm and a leg is required if you want Russian SVD.
