Just wondered if everyone has expareinced this?. My engine sound is very weak. from the cockpit or from external. When i go to one of my race sims I have a tremendous amount of volume. I also have good volume in First Eagles 2.

This is one of those "design decisions" I believe. You have to decide how to bias the sounds - and RoF designers went with the wind rushing in your ears over the throaty roar of your engine. Other sims focus on other things. RB3D for instance had some pretty cool wire stress and fabric ripping sounds.

Is the RoF approach accurate in the air? Beats me. I can tell you that I've heard some original WWI engines up close and personal at Old Rheinbeck Aerodrome and those suckers were LOUD.

The wind noise is pretty much spot on, but the engine volume needs to be increased to about the same level. Airplanes are hella loud! And you shouldn't be able to hear another plane unless they are about to land on top of you.

Glad I asked. I thought i needed to make some kind of adjustment that i did not know about. In the data folder I find Audio. And in that i find Hi,,Med,,Low but don't know how to open those files .In the settings folder ther is a "no wind" which ihavec checked but I don't think that relates to sounds. It must be how the plane handles in the wind. Nothing that is easily modable.Foe the most part ,all I can hear is wind. Very little engine sound. Wish there was a way to chnage this along with the AI settings also. Guess they don't want you messing with anything except painting a skin.

Sounds like a nice trade off as the engine noise is noisy enough as it is especially on long trips to and from the battlefield, any louder and I think it would become very annoying.

You can always turn your speaker volume down. Can't do that in a real plane.

I just want a realistic balance of sounds.

Yep, BlueRaven's right (as usual).

Engine sounds don't bother me personally, but I wish the external gun sound was a bit meatier.

I hear ya over my quitish engine WinkNGrin

The only issue with that option is missing out on other important sound such as air raid sirens, bullets tearing up my plane etc, best solution is a separate volume slider for various sounds, you know it make sense!

You shouldn't hear any sounds over your engine which you couldn't in reality. In the sim, unfortunately, you can.

Maybe feed LineOut to a (radio) set of headphones after pre-amp filtering for bass boost, treble cut etc

They are loud, but pilot reports quite often mention being able to hear machine guns firing from nearby aircraft. One of the German pilots recounts playing around with whistles that could be heard from aircraft to aircraft on a closed-throttle descent.

Cheers,

Nick
