As can be seen though, even DX9c looks pretty darn good.

This has always been up in the air, and not listed on the A-10C web page for this reason.

Looks good according to GA's movie so don't think it will be that big a loss.

No biggie. I'm not a huge fan of needless framerate killers like bloom and all that anyway. I DCS Black Shark looks great and it runs as smooth as butter on my rig.

What I am psyched about, however, is the mention of "...the next DCS aircraft." Wonder what it's gonna be?

All the screenshots we've been seeing are done in DirectX 9.

IMO the tessellation effects would be nice, but not at the cost of delaying the warthoggin'.

I have no grief over the postponement of DirectX 11 for the DCS series, and from the GA video it IMO could be great with tesselation effect but it isn't needed, the biggets plus with the DCS series is that it is an ongoing development project.

I can understand the reasons for not wanting to force/rush dx11 and I think it's a wise decision but what happened to dx10?

Those would be nice, but I would prefer the F-15E. Jane's F15 was the only sim which had the F-15E with pilot/CPG modeled. I believe Matt Wagner was part of that too. Plus they introduced a new model for the F15E in DCS:A10C so that might be taken as a "read between the lines" hint.

I will also happily settle for a AH-64A.

It is not the graphic part of DX11 that I wanted. It was the performance gains. DX11 will give you 64 bit, performance gains from multi gpu and it uses the threads better. So it looks like the performance will not be better than BS.

For future releases, yeah, but in the short term DX11 requires a DX11 card, which most don’t have. 64bit won’t do you any good as most apps don’t breach 3-4 GB per .EXE anyway and multi GPU is another niche feature.

With Sims already being a niche, it doesn’t make sense for ED to niche-the-niche if you see what I mean.

Also, remember when DX10 came out and loads of games crammed in last minute cash-in DX10 support? Crap frame rates and minimal extra eye candy.

As the tech matures and the hardware proliferates, the next DCS with shine! In a combined A-A / A-G with full modelled A-G radar &/or carrier ops kind of way wink

Glowing amraams video has been heavily video doctored,I wouldnt expect to see any significant graphical improvements over BS/FC2 gentlemen.

"heavily" doctored? Hardly. With one or two exceptions (I know one is the heat blur on the runway when the F-15s are taking off) everything in the video is straight out of the game, no doctoring.

Would be interesting to see how they would do a gunner or GIB for either the Mudhen or the Apache, I think that would be a real challenge to get right for single player. I personally would never fly it but it would be cool for the helicopter people to have a west attack chopper too smile

64 Bit is not related to DX11 at all, and will most likely make an appearance before DX11. And to be honest it is way too early to be speculating on performance.

My video isnt "heavily" edited at all.

1 scene has some added Heat blur, but overall, all i really did, for the sake of the movie, was to add some more contrast to the overall footage, but basically, what you see, is what you get. smile

Since most sim rigs are mainly built to run older sims anyway (not that many new ones are there?), I bet most aren't DX11 capable anyway. I know I'm not upgrading any time soon, so I see this as good news that they won't hold back to put it in. Can't wait to see this thing.

One thing I like about DX11 is that it mandates built-in FSAA. DX10 can do some great stuff with the sun's rays thru clouds, as those who've played Crysis in DX10 would know. It can also do better water, but really what we've seen in GA's video is good enough for a land-based flight sim. Now if this was for an Su-33 or F/A-18 module, I'd expect varying sea states too!

As for DX11 ability, as long as you have Vista or Win7 you can get the very inexpensive GTX 460 for under $200 and get awesome DX11 performance. I bought a Radeon 5850 for almost $100 more as the 460 didn't exist at the time, but I would've if it had.
