Had a hard time myself, tried for over 30 min., restarting the server and so on, but no luck. In the end I copied the saved game to my gaming rig and Fixer and I finished off the battle.
I'll take a struggle with the "server-PC" now, trying to get it going again.
Edit: Don't know if you tried before (hopefully) my transition to the gaming-PC or if it was after that. In the latter case I have some serious trouble, in the former I'll "just" make a ghost of the server-PC any a complete reinstall of Win XP and eeah+eech, hang on (for a couple of days)

As Moje said, there were problems last night.

I couldn't get a green link in the campaign screen for Moje even though the red one was there.

I got a green link on PC's server and got in okay but, when I tried to get a helo it stuck. The game was still running, but the "cockpit" and "quit" buttons at the bottom of the screen never appeared. I exited the campaign and got the "Display errror".

I waited a bit then tried Moje again, this time I got in okay and we finish the campaign. I was just tidying up a few remaining SAMs when I was crashed to desk top. After that I couldn't get into Moje again. I got the green link but it just hung if clicked on it. So I called it a night.


Just as an aside, something strange has happened since Wednesday's flight. Everytime I select a Comanche, after clicking "confirm", I get an "Engine over torque" message. My throttle is all the way down and the rotor is not even engaged yet. :rolleyes: . All the other helos are alright, just the Comanche does it.

Finally got into a MP game. Hope I can play for longer one of these times, sadly, I kept getting a DirectPlay error.

I saw you come and go, creeper, don't know what happend. I suspect you got trouble due to lag, the behaviour of eech was typical to lag in connection. In the end, the crappy directplay (DP4 in DX7) version eech uses goofed out and you was unable to rejoin, uffe got he same trouble after a while and I decided to call it a night.
You're most welcome to try again next time you see me running a game, there's still a possibility that we can fly for hours w/o trouble -it all depends on the connection at the moment.

Had a go to another Sword...campaign that Uffe and I started a while ago.
Thanks to DAHOOL who joined me after a while. Looks like we got some trouble with the comm's after a while ,sorry about that.

He started out as an escort to me, that's why I mentioned tapping "W" until he got the X-waypoint. We made some damage and destroyed a refinery (objective), then comm's trouble arised and it got kind of late for me (23.20 local time) so I called it a night. Hope I'l lC U again DAHOOL

As for the comm problems, I think there's something more to it... W12 had definitely better MP reviews.

I searched for w12 in this forum, to spot when we made that. It was released on Nov 12 2003. If a diff. search should be done, do you now which fiels that should be looked at Jabberwock? I mean a total "diff" beween w14 and the current source would lead to a lot of files to check.

Eidt: w12D was released on Dec. 4 2003. In that version "instant cto" kickout was introduced (looked at the thread) Could this be something that's responsible for client-problems (they get dumped more frequently)

Edit #2: Jabberwock, I looked into the comm_man.c a bit and noted that now (in w14) the cto is hardcoded to cto=3 -could this be too low and causing the clients kick-out problems. In my local code I've reverted that, so that command-line settings of cto is active again but I haven't committed it to the repository (yet)

The timeout is NOT hardcoded, only the validate_connections interval is. If the problem is still with that procedure, then we are back at square one.

Well, another MP-session with mixed results. This time not because of eech itself, but sloppy host (me). To start off I had run some test-sessions with an upcomming eech-version and then went back to w14. Somehow eech decided that I had no joystick anymore, so controls was set as 'keyboard'. Uffe joined me in the Shalom hagalil (or whatever...) and cleared a FARP while I was heading for a carrier. Decided to fly manual quite a long distance to avoid a FW theat was buzzin' around. When I disengaged the AP I got no control, struggling around with my joystick-settings while the game was running didn't help (discovered the 'keyboard'-setting afterwards, so when Uffe was done with the FARP we called it a night.
Now I've made a fresh install of XP and (only) eech on another PC, you may ahve seen "Moje_server" on the Masterserver. I'll repeat that soon.
Looking at the log from that PC, I found creeper had payed a short visit, thanks for dropping in and feel most welcome. The game wasn't stalled or anything, joining was possible, I tested before I stopped the server.

NP.. Sadly, the first time I came in I had no joystick either, so I exited quickly and remedied that. The other exits were from the dreaded DP error (can't wait till thats a memory)

I have the server list page bookmarked and check it at least once a day when I'm online. So I should be joining more often. \:D

Let's hope it wil lbe gone some day, but as I understand it, it's a pretty hard task to fix. DPlay isn't that easy to debug and it's also hard to exchange the DPlay4 (DX7-code) with Dplay8 (DX8-code)

I'm using cgs=0 (in eech.ini), telling eech to use it's own code for "guaranteed send" instead of DPlay's code, could you check your eech.ini (open with notepad), I think the default for cgs is cgs=1 in version w14. I've changed that, so in the next version cgs will default to 0 if eech.ini is regenerated.

Just checked and my cgs=1 so I changed it to 0. I'll let ya know if I see any difference between the two. \:D

Good, I'll put up a session my "server-PC" when I get home from work.
Last night I had a short session with Shalom... and Uffe joined. He was kicked out a couple of times, but in this particular case it could be his i-net connection, it's not that straight-forward.
Anyway, both carriers are taken care of and we had cleared the first bunch of frigates too, when Uffe got kicked out and my game froze too. Save-point is after destroying he 2nd carrier, so the frigates are still there. next time..
