Hey folks, I've been thinking about updating my graphics card. With regards to my specs listed in my signature, what would be a noticable upgrade from my GTX275? Thanks.

Tom's Hardware has the graphics chart to show where a card stands in relation to another.

Tom's Hardware is Objective.

Here's the Graphics Card Hierarchy Chart. It directly answers your question. One must jump up 2 levels to see a difference. For you that means GTX480 or HD5870 or better.

Hierarchy

What's the best for the money? Being an ATI Fan I like HD5870 smile However, Tom's is more even handed.

Best GPU for the Money

We're about 6 weeks away from the first HD6xxx cards. Prices on everything current are rumored to drop in a big way by then. Nvidia has nothing to compete directly -- so they will be dropping prices a lot -- starting soon, it is rumored. Thus, might want to wait a few weeks to get the best deal.

EDIT: Two like minded replies, I see smile

I agree. Going to cost some serious money to upgrade from that 275. I would wait and let the 5850/460 war settle in a little more till prices really fall. Then maybe the 5870 would do it.

The GTX275 is near enough to the top of the heap why bother unless you want triple monitor support and I think the latest series of graphic drivers from Nvidia allows that.

Nvidia has triple monitor support in some GTX4xx -- requires TWO cards in SLI though. Bonus is 3D support -- if one has 3 120Hz monitors and active 3D glasses.

ATI mid price and up all support 3 monitors (Eyefinity) -- only ONE card. My HD5830 is working Eyefinity at 5760x1200 in the games that support that resolution (more games than I expected do support it). However, one of the three monitors must have Displayport input -- or an adapter. No 3D currently. 3'd party 3D is rumored as a driver upgrade at some point -- assuming it did not already sneak up on me.

If you're just starting to look now, wait what the AMD 6000 series brings to the table. Shifting prices? Rumours so far is about 20% more performance and real cards being photographed already. The word on the street was that cards would hit the shops in November.
