Okay, here are entries three through eight on the scoreboard from my last multiplayer match. Number four is mine.

3. Score: 1169; kill/death: 0.6; kills: 7; deaths: 11; accuracy: 6%; flight time: 00:46:07
4. Score: 910; kill/death: 0.5; kills: 2; deaths: 4; accuracy: 10%; flight time: 00:42:33
5. Score: 872; kill/death: 1.2; kills: 7; deaths: 6; accuracy: 26%; flight time: 00:33:32
6. Score: 728; kill/death: 1; kills: 5; deaths: 5; accuracy: 27%; flight time: 00:38:28
7. Score: 687; kill/death: 1; kills: 1; deaths: 0; accuracy: 13%; flight time: 00:48:29
8. Score: 650; kill/death: 1; kills: 1; deaths: 1; accuracy: 14%; flight time: 00:17:39

How is score calculated? I can't figure it out for the life of me. I had fewer kills, a worse kill ratio, and worse accuracy than the guy just below me in score. The guy with the highest score had the most deaths, the second-lowest kill ratio, and the lowest accuracy of all of the entries. Huh? How does this work?

The only way that these figures could make any sort of sense to me (not that I'm complaining—the score seems to be a fairly reasonable estimate of the skill and effort put forth by the players, judging from what went on in the match rather than the statistics) is if there's a complex algorithm taking into account factors such as fighting multiple enemies by yourself, or flying deep within enemy lines. Anyone know the scoop?

It has something to do with the number of successful sorties you have had. Each sortie is flight resulting in crash/death/landing. You would need to record what happened in each sortie rather than just what happened overall. Neoqb havent released how it works.. but it could be figured out if someone was determined enough.

Is there some kind of mechanism to prevent idiotic players from "score-whoring" by taking off and landing over and over again? Like a minimum flight time? Or do you get more points for flying over enemy territory or something?

I think you are rewarded most highly (points wise) for landing, and the least for dying. Now what you do in those sorties is whats important, you can land and takeoff all day..however if you dont actually kill anyone or anything in that sortie then you wont get points. I think its a combination of points from each individual sortie but I really don't understand precisely how it works, and I don't plan on working out how either. The leaderboard system is pretty meaningless, just fly to keep yourself alive and your enemy dead. You will get a feel over time for your proficiency, regardless of so called "scores".

I see. Thanks. Oh, one more thing—does a capture count exactly the same as a death? It shows up as a death on the board ...

Not sure how captures affect score but they are considered deaths for your ratio.

An nice addition to the score is that players are awarded for staying in the server longer and continuing the fight - after you click finish flight if you select your plane and get straight back out there to fight again you get an instant score boost. Maybe this is to keep games going and stop people from leaving smile

There are a few strange things regarding kill counts etc, the other night I was shot up in a dogfight but still flying and still in the fight, when a message comes up telling me I had been shot down, I then managed to fly back to base and land successfully and uninjured.

That is because kills are recorded on "death of plane". You'll also notice when a plane is dead, it can no longer be padlocked or F2'ed...

...ocassionally, A kill message will come up shortly before an engine dies, as is what I expect you are describing.

And technically, what does it matter that some other pilot has a kill added to his record...you didn't die - you didn't lose your streak...whats the big deal?
